This story, from the Manchester Evening News, was published on March 01, 2007. It was just about a week after Amy played at the Academy 1 in Manchester, but she actually went in to get her 'Never Clip My Wings' tattoo just before playing at the Manchester Academy 2 about 5 months earlier on November 16, 2006. So, those parts of the story are a little bit misleading, but the rest is a good read ...

How tattooist Mark gave wings to the Queen of the Brits

THEY tried to make her go to Chorlton.

And Amy Winehouse said: 'Yes, yes, yes'.

When the painted music sensation asked for the best tattooist in town on a recent visit to Manchester, friends pointed her in the direction of the Scared Art studio on Barlow Moor Road.

Amy, who picked up the Best Female award at the Brits earlier this month, dropped-in to have her own design of a Nightingale bird tattooed on to her lower right arm, along with the words 'never clip my wings'.

The rebellious 23-year-old, famed for her drinking binges and recent dramatic weight loss, visited Mark Armstrong's parlour after performing at the Manchester Academy 2.

Mark, who has been running his business in Chorlton for the last nine years, said: "Amy heard about our studio through one of her friends, so following one of her gigs she made her way over here with a design of a Nightingale that she wanted.

"She had it all drawn out and was very specific about what she wanted to be done.

"She's a sound girl and was totally down to earth when she came in.

"Her music is not really the kind of thing I would normally listen to, I'm more into heavy metal, but when she told me about her music and what it is that she does I became quite curious.

"My wife has always listened to her anyway, but now I'm a total convert!

"She's already got quite a lot of tattoos, but she struck me as quite an impulsive person and I imagine that if she gets it into her head that she wants another tattoo, she would just get up and get it done. She has quite a few already."

The star recently received rave reviews for her album, Back to Black.

Her single Rehab - which featured the infamous line 'They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, 'no, no, no' - reached number seven in the UK charts in October.
