surely i can't be the only one who hates this - like when an amy song plays in a shop or even when im with my friends at a party or something i feel uncomfortable and sort of cringe slightly. I think maybe its cause her music feels so personal and special to me and its just weird when it gets played in public. This happen to anyone else?

The feeling you described is pretty familiar for me. But at the same time it's always a pleasant surprise to hear Amy's songs somewhere I didn't expect. Well, these feelings are pretty contradictory :)

No, I always love hearing Amy anywhere!  Once I was running for a train and realised they were playing Amy in a shoe shop.  I had to stop and go in and pretend to look at shoes, and then another Amy song came on and by the 3rd song I realised they were playing the entire Back to Black album.  I had to tear myself away and go home!

Yeah, it feels personal, but it's still pleasant. I noticed Amy still gets played and covered by young artists a lot. One time i was flying to Milan and flight attendant started to sing Valerie on speakers because it was someone's birthday. The whole plane heard it. I was already in a good travel mood, but this just made my day because it was so unexpected. Also yesterday i was in a bar and they were playing Amy's playlist for like an hour, not even those hit songs. It was nice, always happy to hear her.

I love hearing Amy's songs anywhere I go! Makes me feel like I am in the right place at the right time.

I don't like hearing any music I love in a public place because that usually means it's played over a shitty sound system and people are talking over it (or worse, singing along).  I think I feel this way about Amy's music especially; I just feel like the world should stop when her music plays, and I don't like it being background music.  On the other hand, I'm always happy to know Amy's music is being heard and enjoyed.  But I'd rather hear it alone, and LOUD.

I'm like you, I don't feel comfortable when it comes on in a public place. As I'm a secret Amy Winehouse fan, I don't like to share with friends or family that I know all her songs, or other things about her. To them, it's just another song that comes on the radio, to me it's the tragic life of Amy Winehouse and the personal emotional cords she touches on, all wrapped up in that one song, but that I can't admit to... so I end up acting like it's just another song too.

This is how I am as well! My boyfriend likes to mess with me by bringing her up in conversation when we're with other people because I get awkward and quiet trying to act like I'm not obsessed lol. But I don't like hearing her music in public because, even though it's nice that she still has a presence, its personal and I feel like her music isn't getting the attention and respect it deserves in that setting. She's not background music thank you very much lol.

Depends on what mood I'm in.. But once, when I was walking to the tube station with a friend after Juliette Ashby's gig, Valerie came on in one of the bars we were passing by, and so we both stopped and danced and sang along, which was awesome because it just felt a little bit like Amy was there too :)

Since I don't see Amy as a "guilty pleasure" anymore - which she maybe was considered as years ago - I get a nostalgic and happy feeling when I hear her music in a shop. Actually I've been shopping today and when I wanted to leave the store a remix of "Rehab" started playing so I had to think of this post immediately and decided to stay a little longer. Also I don't have a feeling that her music doesn't get worshipped enough in public as it is played quite often by now.
And since I have a photo of Amy in my clear phone case everyone knows I like her without me having to say anything. So I never really feel "caught" when I hear her music somewhere. :D

Yes I know what you mean. It feels very personal to me because of what I was going thru when I discovered her music.

I don't like hearing her music publicly or with other people because I always get so emotional by her voice and can't function properly. It's embarrassing
