I think some people will always percieve her to be a fuck up based on her past, and no matter what you say to them is going to change their minds.
Some just aren't into second chances, particularly when it comes to someone who had had it all.
It's just the way some people are, and why waste your breath arguing. We know better

She has a lot to make up for but this time I'm more optimistic than ever.

I mean, who else would dig up a Little Anthony and The Imperials tune and perform it in concert. I love her for that!!

Why would it? She's been "back" many times before. IMO, it's not a success unless she can keep it up.
And yes, as you all know, I'm one of those infamous cynics. Throw dirt at me.
Baby steps, baby steps, turning into monumental leaps. Winehouse needs to increase what is working, and don't stop. She sounded great, her voice has gotten deeper and hoarser. I think she's working with what she has and it's sounding great. Keep it up, Winehouse!
Marisa, I'd stand side by side with you in the pelting of the dirt.

If she doesn't improvise that brilliantly, then I'll take it as a clue that she's understandably still very much affected by anxiousness about failing, though she's clearly very much succeeding. I'm sure that, in time, she'll be able to let go of her anxieties more, in favour of freedom of performance. I'm not a blind or a deaf fan, mind, but I'm admittedly choosing not to let minor negative details affect my enjoyment of her comeback too much either. She seems to go off-key pretty often, specially when she tries to improvise or sing a different melody. I don't really get the reason and can't think of a particular one. She clearly has good sound because she's perfectly on tune most of the time but then she tries to do something different and it simply doesn't work. I'm sorry I'm not a blind (or deaf one for that matter) fan whish I were. The musician in me can't help being a tiny bit bitchy either.

So what's the verdict on the vocal damage?
Boozing and smoking probably did some damage to Winehouse's vocal chords. She's always had a contralto voice, I don't think she can hit those high notes any more. When Winehouse has her shit together, she can create magic. IMHO, she wasn't perfect, but she's a hell of a lot better than her previous performances, particular the Russian Debacle. B-)

She probably should stop smoking cigarettes and weed and incessant drinking won't help either.
