Hello all of you,
hope you are fine.

I have a suggestion for the admin and the others members.

As the "problem" which happened yerstaday and today..I'am wondering if it is better for some of the topics like "Anything Amy " and maybe the support topic..be close for visitors
Maybe like that..we can skip what happened with the fake Blake..

I say may be a solution..After is just a suggestion from me.
It's true I'am a little embarrassed that everyone can see what I'am writhing on .

Cheers

AJH

I'm all for a discussion on it - thanks for raising it :)

What does everyone else think? Would greater privacy in terms of closing the forum to 'browsers' and 'lurkers' be something you'd prefer?

For what it's worth, trolls and suchlike are very rare here; I ban far more spammers than anything else, and even they have a hard time getting in to begin with. Anyone making claims to be someone close to Amy is vetted thoroughly, to weed out fake accounts as quickly as possible, and minimise forum disruption. I've owned and run many web forums over the past decade and this is by far the nicest on the whole :D

But yeah... if anyone else has any thoughts on forum visibility to non-members, please post here so we can make any appropriate changes.

In the meantime, as always, be mindful of what you post online in terms of your own personal privacy x

I am all for this idea, I think it'd be a really good way to protect the forum.

I am for. I have read many Spanish or French forums or even sites and Facebooks that come to steal our photos. -.- I think it's a good idea and the forum is so well known anyway, I don't think we will lose members because of it.

I fall in love everyday !
Not with people, but with situations...

Sounds good to me. I do wonder if it would affect how many join. I guess if they're really Amy fans they would take a few seconds to register. No problem here.

They're not OUR photos. I vote no, there are other people who are not members and probably take their news from here. They would have to register each time they visit, most of them will forget the name and password since they don't want to post here.

I agree with you. People may want to view the forum every once and a while, but not become members. If you are blocking public access, how will potential members decide if this is the forum that they would like to join?

I understand that there are spammers and trolls, but that is just a small percentage.

Just my opinion.

I have to say absolutely not, I joined in December 2011, but I regularly visited and read through threads for almost a year beforehand.. being able to see all the pictures, stories and discussions of Amy which you all shared together is what made me want to join this little community and come under Mama's wing(-:

Yes that's not fair for us to be set in this little trap with fake profiles.
I think visitors should just see the register here account because they can see everything pictures posts etc if
they are not members.
i think it's better if we get more privacy we don't want this to happen again.
sick how people are that go out of their way. Wow:nonchalance:

It will not stop anyone from registering if they really want to read, but I agree with this. It's quite a common thing.
Just curious, was this the case with the forum before? Because I remember registering in 2007 for some reason but never posting, I don't even remember my old username. Not that it matters, just wondering.

My brother moderates 2 security forums related to Microsoft. He said there's no way he would sign up for a forum that he couldn't see. So, I go with my bro. Keep it open.

This person who posted today was obviously clued up about Amy he/she may have already been a member under a different name, just a thought? I just don't think this was a simple case of a troll.

Can I just reiterate - this is a fairly isolated incident and is NOT a cause for panic. All forums have these problems from time to time, and this forum gets far less of it than every other site I have owned. We're not about to descend into troll Hell here. One of the tricky parts about forum management is making calls about these people - you cannot accuse people of things without proof, but likewise you have to put your members first. It's a balancing act, but not one we have to contend with regularly at all. Some surprisingly popular forums on the web are overrun with trolls. We've had a handful in five years - trust me, we're doing very well :)

I'll make a decision for the long term good of the forum, and I am giving it due consideration. Obviously, as Phil said, it would cause a downturn in traffic. It will also impact on admin time and bandwidth/storage in terms of the probable upsurge in 'registered lurkers' or 'one-visit' users - every account created takes up space on the server, and a swathe of users registering then not using accounts is a waste of bandwidth.

As I also said, however, you should always be mindful of what you post online - if you're not comfortable with people seeing what you write and you know the site isn't private, use PM functions etc. Safety is obviously one of our key priorities here, but everyone has to take responsibility for themselves also x
