I can't imagine what kind of travesty this is going to turn out to be. I mean, Beyonce sings the same radio-friendly, bubble-gun machine pop junk. Amy's self-written material tells of her own, private pain and suffering. I can't imagine Beyonce/Andre 3000 doing anything more than turning this haunting torch song into another dance floor piece of fluff.

This!

(and for the record, I love Andre 3000) I just don't see why Beyonce and company need to sing and re-do Back to Black. Don't like the idea.

Mitch's tweet... Ummm...

I think this whole illuminati thing is just nonsene, seriously who made that up?

That's why I typed "illuminati" in quotes.

To answer your question, this site "made up" illuminati stuff or talks a lot about it in the music industry. They even have an article about Amy Winehouse and the 27 club. www.vigiliantcitizen.com who knows what to believe, I'm not in the industry. A lot of it seems far-fetched anyway.

Life is like a pipe, & I'm a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside. - Amy Winehouse "back to black"
Amy Jade Winehouse in my heart, mind, and ears FOREVER my lioness.

I definitely do not agree with this. If they want to use Back to Black in the movie, why don't they use the best version? (Amy's)

It's at the beginning of this trailer.

Amy, are you happy?
She squints suspiciously at me.
"About what?"
About life.
"I'm happy about this salad."

^It sounds like hell.

article on mitch's tweets:
"It's slightly curious to request Beyonce pay out the donation, given the soundtrack song is not her personal record. Winehouse also seems to be unaware that former OutKast rapper Andre 3000 also appears on the cover."
http://www.huffingto..._n_3016723.html

all of this news would make me not want to tweet again...but that's just me.

Yes, but Amy's music mustn't be used in an amateur play, because those people are only out to ruin it and make money off of her legacy...

Ughhhh. Not only is the Back To Black cover shit but from those three tracks, I'm not keen on the soundtrack at all. Really not looking forward to the film, and Gatsby is one of my favourite books.

Hate the cover, can't stand Beyonce...

but putting a positive spin on it, it's a great testament to Amy's music that it's now being covered by successful pop stars, I'd just prefer in future for it to be done out of singers loving her music and wanting to record and sing her songs, rather than it being out of obligation for a soundtrack.

I'm sorry but Beyonce just didnt cut it covering Etta James. Jennifer Hudson stole this movie.

i would think so but i don't know much about that stuff.
i am just irked as usual with this "topic" haha

Beyonce's voice has no personality unless she is belting.
My fear is that people who are not familiar with Amy will recognize the brilliance in the songwriting and associate it soley with Beyonce.
B.... don't ride Amy's coat tails

Ok, I gave it a listen and I'm still not into it. I actually think Beyonce has a great voice and her cover of "I'd Rather Go Blind" is pretty good, but this "version" of B2B is awful.

Also, Mitch needs to stop heckling people for money. I understand the foundation needs money to survive, but don't be crass about it. Say that kind of stuff in private, not on Twitter.

We're talking about Mitch here haha. I agree....
The whole twitter thing has gotten out of hand, can't really say he shouldn't have one, but it's a nice thought. (for me, anyway, I know some fans enjoy him?) I think the last thing Amy would want to hear in the media is some bullshit her dad said... even if I agree with him on things, why can't he do it in a respectable way? It's weird enough that Amy isn't here, now her dad is making headlines? Ugh...

Nope, don't like it.
I don't hate Beyonce, some of her pop songs are exactly what you would expect from a pop song: poppy, fluffy, catchy.

but putting a positive spin on it, it's a great testament to Amy's music that it's now being covered by successful pop stars, I'd just prefer in future for it to be done out of singers loving her music and wanting to record and sing her songs, rather than it being out of obligation for a soundtrack.

You know, I think Jay-Z and Beyonce are genuine fans of Amy, they actually looked mezmerized by her when they met her, and I think this cover - as bad as it may be - is exactly what you're describing: two artists who really appreciated Amy's talent and what she contributed to contemporary music wanting to pay recognition...in a really clumsy way!

Jay-Z and Jeymes Samuel worked with Luhrmann and his team on the project over the past two years, translating the Jazz Age sensibility of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel into the musical equivalents of our own times, through the blending of hip-hop, traditional jazz and other contemporary musical textures.

Luhrmann said: 'F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel is peppered with contemporary music references specific to the story’s setting of 1922. While we acknowledge, as Fitzgerald phrased it, ‘the Jazz Age,’ and this is the period represented on screen, we—our audience—are living in the ‘hip-hop age’ and want our viewers to feel the impact of modern-day music the way Fitzgerald did for the readers of his novel at the time of its publication.'

from the Daily Mail UK

I think Amy would be chuffed to be included in the hip-hop gang, to be flying the flag. But I'm not sure she would've liked Beyonce singing her song!...

Do you remember the interview by intercom :eagerness:(I think it was this one ) ? Amy was asked if she'd like to sing with Beyonce:concern: or what does she think about her :pride:and Amy:heart: said that she likes... watching Beyonce dancing. Note: dancing:hopelessness:, not singing :livid:(!), haha:applause:
