I agree that a black background makes it more difficult to read but you also can't have it too contrasting or it'll hurt your eyes. I'd like to see some other color combos in the future!

Yeah I'm not talking about #000000 vs. #FFFFFF black and white, haha just little more contrast. I'm used to that scheme it since I work 8 hours a day drawing on ACAD and white backgrounds annoy me, plus in the long run it's less tiring for my eyes. But that's just my opinion.

Orr maybe the font is too small for me? Ah, having bad vision sucks. I think I'll use the white one for now.

A page I found on contrast, haha:

OK, so maybe my eyesight is getting bad, or maybe I'm just getting old, but is anyone else finding it difficult to read this new forum???

I think for me it's mostly the colors that make it difficult (black background), I find the 'Baisik' a little easier on the eye...but I'm still struggling to read through a whole page. My eyes dart all over the place.

I used to be able to spend hours reading stuff on here, and now I find I can't spend more than 5 minutes. This might be a blessing in disguise of course for my productivity and social life!

I realize most people here  are expressing how happy they are with the changes, so it's probably just me. (Note to self : book appointment at ophtalmologist)

Thanks for the feedback on readability! I agree with Veronika that a dark background is less tiring on the eyes, but I think the problem with the one we've got may be that the default font is quite a bit smaller than on the old forum, making it a lot more difficult to read. I've found myself zooming in the screen on a few occasions. I hadn't really considered contrast issues to be honest, so thanks for pointing that out, does anyone else think it's a problem? The blue IP.board skin has a larger font, which I find a lot easier to read, so maybe we should have the option of both a light and a dark skin with a clear, larger font? What do you guys think? I'm not sure how customizable the dark one we've got is, but will look into it.

Yes! I like that idea very much! It doesn't make sense to me that signatures look ginormous underneath the replies. Is it possible for users to customize the font size? Like, in settings users can chose? That way if the default isn't to someones liking they can change it themselves? May be a long shot, I can't see what you can change.

When people use Google or Bing and click on a link to the site, it says Google and Bing are users and they are online. Is there a way to hide that? It's a little strange to see.  :amy_tongue:  (Just noticed Amy faces were back- YAY!!)

I do find the blue IP board one easier to read, but it reminds me a lot of Facebook.

I agree that the signatures are relatively too big.

My problem with the dark background isn't so much the font size (although it might be a little smaller than what we're used to), but all the bright colors in my peripheral view: the green 'Like This' button, the red buttons, people's name appearing in bright white, the sharp colors of their profile photo, etc. I find that my eyes rapidly scan to all these bright colorful elements on the page BEFORE I can actually settle on the text. And as I scroll down, my eyes shoot back and forth, first attracted by all the colors (right now, as I type this message, my eyes keep focusing on the little Twitter, Facebook, Print, etc. logos at the bottom left of the page). The contrast (if that's my actual problem, it's hard to identify) is making me dizzy.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound picky, I'm actually getting worried about my eyesight if this is something not experienced by other members...

Presence of Google, Bing, Yahoo and other similar pseudo-users means that their crawlers are walking through the forum to index it.

We can hide them though. Who would vote for that, who would vote against?

Oh, I see! But there are some good news: we can install other skins, so you can pick your favourite skin (you can look for them by googling "ip.board skins" or "free ip.board skins") and send us the link.

Do you have astigmatism? The white on black makes me see the text as sort of doubled (and only when the text is bigger is this not an issue as in headlines, etc.) so it isn't just you with eye problems hahah. Fortunately I have already read most of the forum so that's why I'm not complaining too much.

Interesting topic tho

I don't think it's that big of a deal but... hiding them wouldn't hurt.

No, I'm slightly myopic (short-sighted). I prefer the white background as I find there are fewer colorful buttons to distract me, I find it easier to follow the thread. Maybe it's not so much an eyesight issue, maybe I'm just boring and prefer neutral tones.  :P

Thanks Vlad! So I had a quick look, the first one that caught my attention was Memory 1.1.1. (http://invisionmoddi...le/1915-memory/ ) ... so yep, that solves it! I like boring shades of colour!  ;)

With the old forum, I used to have some issues with the colours when I switched to a mac (for example my smileys were bright fluorescent yellow verging on green). I read somewhere that this was normal with a mac. Could this explain why I'm finding the black background quite agressive on the eye? Any other mac users having the same issues with the readability?
