AMY WINEHOUSE SINGER
The Independent
September 22, 2006

Film

My boyfriend, Alex, and I got so bored when we went to see V for Vendetta at the cinema – about a masked freedom fighter, Hugo Weaving, who befriends a girl, Natalie Portman, after rescuing her from the secret police – that we ended up mucking about and we got chucked out of the cinema in the end. We had just started going out with each other and got a bit naughty. The last film I saw was Down in the Valley – about the relationship between a delusional man who believes he is a cowboy, and a rebellious woman. It was great – tragic… very sweet… very sad… very hopeless… and barren. My boyfriend hates me because I make him watch Sin City all the time. I watch it so much because I love it. I am a real comic book girl. I even got a tattoo of one of the girls with big boobs from Sin City.

Music

My favourite band is The Shangri-Las, especially the tune “I Can Never Go Home Anymore”. I have been listening to a lot of Motown this week. Actually, my friends hate it because when we all go back to someone’s house all I want to do is listen to the same Motown compilation CD again and again. I don’t really like any new stuff to be honest. Nothing stands out.

Books

Because my boyfriend is a chef I like cookery books. I love cooking for him. When he gets home he just wants toast, so it is a chance for me to cook for him. I like the classic Delia Smith cookbook best. I travel a lot so I get odd hours sitting around doing nothing. I love reading. I am just finishing Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel. It is about this psychic medium who is haunted by loads of spirits. I have read Catch-22 by Joseph Heller a dozen times.

Theatre & opera

I have only seen one play that stands out. It was Topdog/Underdog at the Royal Court starring the rapper Mos Def. But no – I don’t like theatre or opera, because you have to dress up and you can’t go in looking like a sack of shit.
