The only way that I can really come to understand what is going on with Amy is through all of the painful experiences that she has turned into songs and some of the events that we have discussed here:
* Her father left the family for an adultress
* Her pet canary Ava died
* She fell head-over-heels in love with a co-worker but he had no interest in her
* She had several relationships that ended in disaster
* Blake cheated on her
* (not yet in a song) Blake was incarcerated
* (not yet in a song) her privacy evaporated when she became famous
* (not yet in a song) embarrassing details of her struggles with drugs and alcohol have been publicized and lampooned in the media

For us fans, it is very easy to say, "I don't get it, Amy--you're on top of the world! You're a really creative songwriter, you have a great-sounding voice, and you're beautiful. How could things get any better?" From Amy's perspective, however, I would bet that the weight of all these years of built-up pain and heartache is unbearable. I wouldn't be too surprised if Amy pined for the "good old days" before she was famous. I don't think that Amy is a totally different person than she was during the "Frank Era." Instead, I think that the built up pain and stress just hit a threshold that caused her to act out.

I can only hope that I don't have to hear Elton John sing, "Goodbye Amy Jade" one of these days. :(

Ha ha!

I just haven't been able to get "October Song" out of my head today:

Ava was the morning, now she's gone.
She's reborn like Sara Vaughan.
In the sanctuary she has found
Birds surround her sweet sound.
And Ava flies in paradise.

Poor Ava. Poor Amy.

artists are people like the rest of us. we all got our story and issues. that's what therapists are for. Streisand got into analysis when she "hit", feeling overwhelmed by it all. Amy has that choice as well. Why she chooses not to is her business. but one thing is for sure, until she does, the acting out with drugs and alcohol will go on and on and on........

The sad thing is that Amy doesn't even think her behaviour is disturbing! She probably thinks she has many "friends", but they are not real friends any more, just hangers on, fellow junkies, and the paps. These people are only interested in her because she is so famous. Her real friends have probably give up trying to make her see sense, and not part of her now everyday "mad" world.

Sadly she has become a freak show, with her loyal fans and her old friends reading about her everyday, waiting for her next shocking antics to be reported by the press. She is just a very famous and very public drug addict at the moment. I don't even want to associate this Amy we see now with the old Amy. I really cannot see how she can be in the right mental frame of mind to even write or record any new songs. I don't hold much hope for her recovery any time soon. :(

If Amy is fed up with the lack of privacy and stress of being a celebrity, I can understand. Getting rid of her celebrity status would require her never performing publically or recording again. She would have to give up the her beehive and mascara. If destroying Amy the musical superstar is what it takes to save Amy the person, I am all for that. As Kajay points out, Amy's current state is such that she can't do her job as a professional musician, sot the musical superstar Amy might as well be dead. However, the legacy of great songs and recordings that she has left us will live on.

Edit: I guess that I should clarify that I am assuming that Amy has reached a stage where she is drinking and partying to numb her emotional pain. If somebody can get through to her, that person should suggest to Amy that if being a musician is no longer fun and rewarding for her, then getting out of the music business is a rational and respectable thing to do.
