Hello everyone, I am Mary Jane and for school I have to do research about being a fan and the influence the media has on it. I am a fan myself, from Alanis Morissette but I wanted to do research to fans from different artists and since I got her album Back to Black I got interested in Amy and I was wondering if you would answer some questions for me.

1. Why are you a fan of Amy? (when did you become a fan and what was the reason you got interested in more of her besides her music?)

2. What kind of influence did Amy have on you?

3. What did you think about Amy when there was bad publicity about her? and what kind of influence did that have on you? (this is not something personal agains Amy, I ask these questions about bad publicity to fans of other artists too)

4. Did you believe the media? (when it was bad or good publicity?)

5. How do you behave towards the media? (when it is good or when it is bad publicity.)

6. Did the bad publicity have influence on your vision of Amy?

Thank you for answering! And again, these questions about bad publicity are not something against Amy, I have to do research about fans and their vision towards their idol and the media.

Hy Mary Jane! I'm Iulian and I'll try to respond at those questions :D

1. Why are you a fan of Amy? (when did you become a fan and what was the reason you got interested in more of her besides her music?)

Because of her music and her lyrics. When she released "Rehab" she became well known and her style was new, great etc. I'm not interested in more of her besides music, but if I see a new article, I usually read it, since I might find some news about her works.

2. What kind of influence did Amy have on you?

A good one. My creations are strong influenced by her albums.

3. What did you think about Amy when there was bad publicity about HER? and what kind of influence did that have on you? (this is not something personal agains Amy, I ask these questions about bad publicity to fans of other artists too)

Media will always sell bad news about anyone vulnerable, see Britney, Lauryn Hill or Michael Jackson (now he's dead, and no one gives a crap about anything except songs and videos). I personally don't care about my favorite artists life.

4. Did you believe the media? (when it was bad or good publicity?)

Sometimes.

5. How do you behave towards the media? (when it is good or when it is bad publicity.)

I usually don't care. Fame comes with all kind of surprises.

6. Did the bad publicity have influence on your vision of Amy?

Never did.

Hello MaryJane, Alanis Morissette is also great, but being a fan of Amy Winehouse myself, I'm loving the fact that Back to Black made you get so interested in her as well.

1. Why are you a fan of Amy? (when did you become a fan and what was the reason you got interested in more of her besides her music?)

For me, my interest in Amy began with her video-clip for Rehab, then some other clips from B2B, and then when I got her DVD, there was no turning back, so to speak. See also my answer to question 2.

2. What kind of influence did Amy have on you?

To me, her personality, style, lyrics and music, and of course her voice, are an amazing and unique going-together of character, style and talent, all with such great authenticity as it is seldomly seen, or heard. She's like a muse to a poet, and I'm a poet.

3. What did you think about Amy when there was bad publicity about him? and what kind of influence did that have on you? (this is not something personal agains Amy, I ask these questions about bad publicity to fans of other artists too)

I may sometimes doubt the wisdom of her choices, but I'll never condemn her for them. I'm the kind of fan/person that stays loyal and stands up for her when I feel that she's been insulted and/or attacked. That's just the way I am.

4. Did you believe the media? (when it was bad or good publicity?)

I try to discern the lies from the truth, which is sometimes difficult, but I hate it when they are consciously lying to sell stories, which has often happened and is still happening, also of course with other celebrities.

5. How do you behave towards the media? (when it is good or when it is bad publicity.)

Of course they can be, and are helpful in providing actual and useful information about Amy (and others), but like I said in my answer to question 4, I try to discern the many lies from the actual facts, and I hate it when lies are being spread, and even more when Amy's insulted and/or attacked.

6. Did the bad publicity have influence on your vision of Amy?

Like she grows and changes, I grow and change, but the true essence of my affection for her stays the same, becoming more profound and powerful as time passes. It is an interesting journey.

I found your questions interesting, and I hope you find my answers helpful.:)

Amy Winehouse died, and she's taken a part of my soul with her. May that part be the love that I felt for her, and may the love that I still feel for her be the undying part of us both.

1. Why are you a fan of Amy? (when did you become a fan and what was the reason you got interested in more of her besides her music?)
Youtube helped - seeing live performances, interviews etc with her, realised how cool she was, that only made me love the music even more. Obviously the music comes first, but I love the way she looks, the way she talks, the things she wears, her own taste in music, and the things she stands for.

2. What kind of influence did Amy have on you?
Introduced me to heaps of artists I would never have listen to otherwise - Motown, 60s pop, ska, jazz, hip hop. She changed the way I listened to music, what I appreciate in an artist. I took on a lot of her wisdom and wit, things she had said.

3. What did you think about Amy when there was bad publicity about her? and what kind of influence did that have on you? (this is not something personal agains Amy, I ask these questions about bad publicity to fans of other artists too)
It was frustrating - just wanted her to get better, but knew there was nothing I could do to make a difference. At times I really thought she was going to die, and felt a flutter every time I came on to the forum, in case I would see something I didn't want to see. I always stuck up for her though among my friends and family. I think I did know she would pull through, although at times when it looked like she was getting better and then would appear looking worse than ever, it did make me a bit angry. It did and still does make me frustrated when I see the way she is portrayed in the media, as I know a lot of the things they say are false, and the people saying it know its false too.

4. Did you believe the media? (when it was bad or good publicity?)
Only if it was a quote from a named source, or if it was from the spokesperson, or if they had photographic/video evidence of what they were reporting. I'm fully aware that 70% of the things they say are bullshit. In saying that though, a lot of the stories that tabloids have run have turned out to be true some time later.

5. How do you behave towards the media? (when it is good or when it is bad publicity.)
Doesn't particularly phase me to be honest, either way.

6. Did the bad publicity have influence on your vision of Amy?
No. I had her music, interviews and live footage to prove to me what she's really like.

Like the prodigal daughter, I'd run to meet her. I'd cook the fatted calf and there would be a huge party.

Love conquers all, at least with Amy.

It's not like we haven't been tested on this subject.

1. Why are you a fan of Amy? (when did you become a fan and what was the reason you got interested in more of her besides her music?)

Seeing videos of her performing on Youtube, early 2007. I remember exactly when I became a fan. I saw some videos on Youtube one afternoon and went to buy Back To Black that same evening. The following months, I listened to nothing else. Why did I get interested in her as a person? Because of her music, I guess. I didn't know anything about her at the beginning. The day after I got the album, I left on a bus trip through Italy. I listened to the album over and over again, and I got a sort of image of her. When I came back from that trip, I joined this forum and slowly got to know more about her. A lot of the thing I found out, where things I already knew from her album. Not obvious things, but small things, thoughts, characteristics I could find in her songs. I got the feeling that this was a special person, someone who has something special in her, something that the majority of people doesn't have.

2. What kind of influence did Amy have on you?

I had been struggling with life for a couple of years and found it difficult to recover, and I was in a very bad place in my mind. Back To Black isn't exactly a happy album, but it gave me the strength and support that I needed. Who knows where I'd be without it, if I would still be here at all.
There are other things too, she changed the things I was interested in etc., but that's not as important as what I mentioned before.

3. What did you think about Amy when there was bad publicity about him? and what kind of influence did that have on you? (this is not something personal agains Amy, I ask these questions about bad publicity to fans of other artists too)

I will stay loyal to her, always. That doesn't mean that I agree with everything she does or that I will always defend her. Not at all. She has done a lot of things I don't agree with, and she still does and probably always will do. It can be damn hard to be an Amy Winehouse fan. But she's only human, and humans make mistakes.

4. Did you believe the media? (when it was bad or good publicity?)

It used to bother me, the things they wrote. Now I don't care anymore. When someone comes to me saying "Did you hear that she did .... ?! You must be crazy to be a fan of that woman", I don't even respond anymore. I used to try hard to make people understand that the majority of these things weren't even slightly true, but they never seem to learn. So I just let them think. So do I believe it? No. That goes for good as well as bad news. I know that a lot of fans will only believe the good publicity, but I won't even do that. Seeing is believing, for me.

5. How do you behave towards the media? (when it is good or when it is bad publicity.)

Uh, I guess I already answered that. Ignore them.

6. Did the bad publicity have influence on your vision of Amy?

Yes, it has. Not in the way that I like/love her less, but it can be terribly frustrating. Especially when I know that the bad news is true. It is absolutely heartbreaking to see someone you love throw her life away. It hardly ever makes me mad [at her], but it often makes me sad.

I hope this was useful. Thanks for your interest.

And I go back to... I go back to us.

Bruised, battered and desparate for a fag she may be, but Amy is our 21st Century Piaf: flawed yet fabulous, tormented yet towering. Think of her this way and hope that the still remarkably young woman under the eyeliner thinks that way too. - Jude Rogers, The Word

It is very unlikely that she'll ever offend my moral sensibilities so much that I'd feel compelled to condemn her or lose interest. Even if she made the worst possible choices, I'd feel more compelled to "forgive" her, as she's human in every sense and has countless redeeming qualities. Her musical and lyrical creativity and her voice are perhaps the most obvious ones. For me, it is also in her eyes, the mirrors of her soul, which, if you look well, you can see is beautiful.

there's no denying a talent like Amy comes around once in a great while. you listen to Amy and say, now wait a minute with Britney-Christina and company. This isn't a chic who got training in the Mickey Mouse Club. She's an artist in the real sense of the word and if she doesn't sink too far into celebrity, she could be around for a long long time

sorry, what was the question?

i never loved someone's art like i love Amy's...that's a fact. :)
