Amy Winehouse is suffering from nervous exhaustion after she collapsed at home.
The singer was treated by a doctor who was called out over Christmas.
A source close to Amy, 26, said she already had a serious chest infection before the stress of her recent arrest by police also took its toll.
The pal said: "She's been told to keep a low profile and fully recuperate. She has been feeling very ill of late and had a funny turn at home. She is quite unwell and exhausted after recent events but is soldiering on."
Amy's pals insist she is not drinking too much or taking drugs.
The source said: "She's doing her best to concentrate on her music and not become embroiled in drugs again. Her new songs are amazing but will be on the back burner until she feels better."
Amy was charged with a public order offence and common assault over a bust-up with a man during a pantomime in Milton Keynes, Bucks.
It was alleged that she lashed out at a theatre manager, 27, after disrupting a performance of Cinderella.
Amy, who is said to have collapsed at her house in Barnet, North London, will appear at Milton Keynes magistrates' court on January 20.
The source added: "The last week has been a massive setback for Amy who was really turning a corner. Everyone in her camp is shocked by what has happened.
"But their main concern is making sure she feels better. Then she can throw herself into her music.
"The new year isn't getting off to the best start but Amy is determined and she'll keep looking forward."

The proverbial grape vine's got some bad tasting fruit lately.
Amy Winehouse died, and she's taken a part of my soul with her. May that part be the love that I felt for her, and may the love that I still feel for her be the undying part of us both.

Dionne also said she wasn't back with Blake until last week.

In general, I appreciate Dionne's tweets..

the one about Blake & Amy...I took that one with a grain of salt, figuring that she prob didn't know everything in that (very adult) situation

not surprising!

AMY Winehouse has slammed rumours she collapsed from exhaustion over the Christmas period.

Singer Amy Winehouse exclusively cleared up the collapse rumours to OK.co.uk, insisting she has actually been at her mum’s house celebrating the festive season, despite having a chest infection.

She told us: “I’ve actually written a few more songs over Christmas, I’ve been at home, been over my Mum's, actually been knuckling down to it really.”

And a spokesperson told us that despite Amy not feeling well, the home visit from the doctor was just a check up and insists the singer will not be spending New Year’s Eve in hospital.

They told OK.co.uk: “It's just not true. She won't be checking into hospital, she has no need to.”
