Sharon Jones on Amy Winehouse ....part of the interview

http://www.nydailyne...the_latest.html

Your first break came when you started singing with the guys who would become the Dap-Kings in the '90s. They formed their own label for that vintage sound. They must have felt like lost soul mates to you.

From the first time I worked with them, it felt so comfortable. I could see their label as another Motown or Stax. We were doing our own thing.

But the greatest success they've had so far wasn't with you. It came from backing Amy Winehouse on her hit CD.

To me, they just played on the record. I told them, "Y'all ain't making millions." They just followed her. But it did cause more people to come back to check us out.

Do you know how Amy is doing now?

I haven't seen her in a while. I'm hoping she's better than when I saw her. I just cried. We're just praying she can get herself together because she's got a gift too. She needs to get back out there.

Paul Weller interview, The Observer, 4/11/10.

"Right from the start with music, I was like 'I'm just going to do this and I don't care about anything else.' There are certain things you have to give up, even at 13/ 14.: your Friday and Saturday nights, having a regular girl, things like that. I look at Amy Winehouse, and I think perhaps she just don't want to do it that much. It's hard being out on the road, especially for a young woman. She's a god-given talent, but maybe she just wants to watch TV with her boyfriend or hang out with her mates in Camden".

I kind of agree with him on this. She loves music, but I think she hates all the stuff that goes with it.

That's why I love Ms. Sharon Jones. Not only is she a blessed singer, but a wonderful person with experiences to share.

Bryan Adams hits Binghamton for stripped-down concert

By Chris Kocherckocher@gannett.com • June 9, 2010, 4:00 pm

Q: You're hailed not only for your music but your photography as well. What creative need do you think a camera fulfills that a guitar does not?

A: I spent yesterday with Amy Winehouse, working with her for an ad campaign for Fred Perry. It was exciting to see her well and happy and into the work. It's a different thing working in photography, but nothing replaces the music.

Linda Ronstadt interview...

"So where will you listen to music in your new house?

I almost never listen to recorded music. But I listen to YouTube all the time. And I’m sorry for myself that I’m listening on that shitty little computer speaker because that’s not really music!

Oh, you watch YouTube?! What do you watch?

So I started listening to Amy Winehouse on YouTube and now I’m like an Amy Winehouse fanatic!”

Wait, have you seen the Amy Winehouse/Linda Ronstadt mashup on YouTube of “You Know I’m No Good”/”You’re No Good?”

Yes! It makes no sense musically, but it’s interesting, and I thought it was funny. I’m just completely flattered to be in anything with Amy Winehouse. If I believed in reincarnation, I would firmly believe that Amy Winehouse is the reincarnation of Maria Callas. Maria Callas is such the ‘grand lady,’ and Amy is such a guttersnipe, and they both are so demonically talented."
