Making (but not making up) a couple of excuses for Amy (and why not!): through the combination of the very basic sound system of such a small venue and the even more primitive phone mike, most of the frequencies weren't picked up properly, which is why there is no depth or dimension in the sound (i.e. flat). In truth, she sounded much, much better, no doubt. Somehow, come the second song, I could just about pick up how good it probably was, had I been in the crowd (if only).

She is also very much excused for looking incredibly cute (I could say beautiful and sweet, but I'm going for cute this time), leisurely sitting there on the base drum in her leopard dress, doing what she does best, casually pointing at people in the crowd, blowing them kisses...

I also liked the little conversation at the start between her and her dad; it's halarious how he basically tells her, No, sweetheart, daddy's holding the mike now, you just wait your turn!, and then, of course, he just gives in, or rather, gives up, and lets her "steal" his mike. Funny, sweet, and quite telling, but I won't be Dr. Phillin' it in. ;-)

I'm sorry but I can't buy what your selling lmfao. I love Amy. Honestly, she just doesn't seem like she was really into performing as it was just something she felt like doing because there was a mic, a band, she's Mitch's daughter/Amy Winehouse and a simple "Why not?" lol

Has there been any recent videos since The Specials duet of "Ghost Town" and the other song? I liked what she did there.

Wasn't perfect, but wasn't a disaster! Love the jazz vibe; she needs to bring it back in her next recordings.

I expected much worse! We can't judge much with such crappy sound quality. She was on tune most of the time which is a lot more than can be said of her latest performances. She was freestyling well for what I can hear. You guys know I'm pretty harsh when it comes to her performances but this one isn't bad at all. YAY!

“I might not have any respect for myself, but please show some for this band!” Amy Winehouse tells the audience of City Burlesque, London, on its grand opening night. Honest from a woman who although famous for her undeniable, award-winning singing talent; is equally known for her headline grabbing drug and alcohol abuse problems. Even still, her comment is met with uncomfortable laughter. Kissing our hand upon being introduced, we find Amy to be very open, honest and chatty, though holding her attention for even a second proves tricky as it seems to frequently wander. Behind the infamous beehive, there’s a sweet, almost child-like innocence which Crave on Music is surprised to discover as we chat to the 27-year-old singer/songwriter.

Brought up in East London on a hearty diet of jazz; music is in Amy’s soul. It’s interesting that her debut album was called ‘Frank’ when apparently that name is often at the center of family disputes: ”Tony Bennett is my all time favourite and I argue with my nan about that cos she prefers Frank Sinatra”. Amy’s father, Mitch Winehouse, a former cab driver, has recently launched a singing career and released his own jazz infused album. It’s her father that has brought Amy to City Burlesque as he is the headlining act of their premier cabaret show. Clearly proud of her dad, Amy cheers from the front row and later joins him on stage for a duet. Possessing a contralto voice, Amy says she finds singing with her dad difficult: “it’s always a problem when I sing with my dad cos he doesn’t have all the vocal ranges that I do; I can sing any key I like, whilst he can only do the one”.

So what’s the buzz on her own music? It has been 4 years since the release of her multi-Grammy and Brit award-winning album ‘Back To Black’. Amy and producer Mark Ronson have collaborated on a cover of Lesley Gore’s ‘It’s My Party’ for the upcoming Quincy Jones tribute album ‘Q Soul Bossa Nostra’ due for release on 11th November, but fans will have to wait until at least 2011 for a new album. “I am writing songs at the moment for the new album, the other day I wrote four songs in one day, but decided that none of them were good enough”. Elaborating further she says: “I plan to have about 10-12 songs on the new album which will be Jazz orientated, but I’m not sure what I am going to call it yet; I’ll know once I have all of the album tracks together”. One thing she has put to rest are previous press reports that the album will be recorded in Kwéyól, the local dialect of St Lucia where she has spent a lot of time over the last couple of years: “100% English language”. Whilst 1 or 2 tracks in Kwéyól may have been interesting, us anglophones can heave a sigh of relief!

Performing 2 songs on stage in-between her father’s set, Amy appears shaky, but it’s a stark contrast to what Crave on Music witnessed from her only a few months earlier at Mark Ronson’s Business Intl showcase. She clearly still has a way to go, but only time will tell; look out for Amy Winehouse in 2011.
