A duet between jazz legend Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse is to be released as a charity single.

Proceeds from the pop classic Body and Soul will go toward a charity being set up by the late singer's father to help young people.

The pair recorded the track at London's Abbey Road Studios in March. It was one of Winehouse's last recordings prior to her death on 23 July.

It will be released ahead of Bennett's Duets II album, out on 20 September. "What's going to happen is that we're putting that [Body and Soul] out ahead of the album," Bennett told MTV.

"And it's going to a foundation that her father started - to teach all the young children not to take drugs, and all the royalties of the record will go to that."

In an interview with Radio 4's Front Row last month, Bennett praised Winehouse's musical talent, calling her "truly, a good jazz singer".

Winehouse died unexpectedly, aged 27, following years of alcohol and drug addiction.

The singer's family are currently awaiting the results of toxicology tests to establish the cause of her death.

Hate to play devil's advocate but I've never rated him.

Also, his quoted "good" jazz singer comment in relation to Amy didn't particularly endear me to him either.

There, said it!

I think he's said some pretty nice things about amy's talent. i love tony, here's a bit on him.

Sinatra remains his idol, and it was inevitable that he would name the school for struggling young art students he founded in Astoria, his hometown, the Frank Sinatra School for the Arts. It is hard to imagine another public figure of Bennett’s rank who would make such a selfless gesture. But it was Sinatra who called Bennett the best singer in the business and gave him this loving benediction: “You can only be yourself,” he mused. “But you’re good at that.”

I dreamed for years that he'd pass those words on to Amy. He came pretty close though.

There's absolutely no doubting Tony Bennett's esteem within the industry, although personally I thought Frank Sinatra a far superior performer. The young Sinatra remains one of my favourite singers

Equally, Johnny Cash was obviously another hugely respected and influential artist. But I really don't get him either and I find his material totally one dimensional.

Enough superlatives can't be thrown Tony Bennett's way which would cover his talent. Plus, he's a great humanitarian. I have nothing but respect and admiration for him, and I was lucky enough to catch him in NYC at The Radio City Music Hall to hear him sing Fly Me To The Moon without a mike. An awesome, always generous musician who also had a drug habit so he probably saw a lot of himself in Amy.

thanks to You'reWonderingNow

about 21 minutes in Tony Bennett is talking about recording Body and Soul with Amy, and they actually play a snippet of them together! It sounds eerie.

there was no way i could know, as a little kid listening to tony bennett(and i did), that 45 or so years later, he'd still be going and even doing this number with my favorite artist of all time.

every now and then, life can be very generous.

Let's hope so. I'd love to see it, when they described her in the recording studio with him it sounded so characteristic.
