Mitch Winehouse will perform at a charity brawl to raise funds for The Amy Winehouse Foundation.
The father of the tragic 'Rehab' singer - who died at her London home in July aged just 27 - will sing a selection of songs from his new album 'Rush Of Love' following the charity fight at Proud2 in London's The O2 on October 22.
This will be former cab driver Mitch's second performance since his daughter's death. He sang at the Big Reveal charity show at the Hilton hotel in Park Lane, London, in September where he struggled to hold back tears during the emotional show.
Amy's father launched The Amy Winehouse Foundation on what would have been the late singer's 28th birthday last month (14.09.11), to help a number of causes close to Amy's heart including providing support for young people especially those in need due to "ill health, disability, financial disadvantage or addiction".
He said: "I was in New York when I received the terrible news about Amy. It was almost instantaneous, this feeling that we need to help people she cared about. Amy was very generous and we kept coming back to the thought of how much she loved children. It seemed appropriate that the focus of our work should be with young people, those who are vulnerable either through ill health or circumstance. Amy touched millions throughout the world and I know she will continue to, through the foundation."

I'd love if he covered an Amy song. Something from Frank.

Amy, are you happy?
She squints suspiciously at me.
"About what?"
About life.
"I'm happy about this salad."

I don't think he will sing any of Amy's songs anytime soon. Imagine singing your late daughter's songs, especially so soon after her passing - I wouldn't be able to sing due to all the crying.

I'm sorry, but I think this kind of comment is really unfair. Mitch tried to help Amy in the best way he could. I'm not saying he did everything right but it's difficult to know what to do when your daughter is ill like Amy was and making mistakes is human. He obviously loved Amy deeply. In the end there was only so much he could do for her, the rest had to come from herself.

And anyway, I seem to remember it was Amy who said to her dad he should record an album.

his career came after Amy was getting better. Mitch drove taxi up until a few years ago when it became impossible for him to try to do his job d/t Amy's celebrity. He has even stated in many interviews PRIOR to Amy's passing that he could not have possibly thought about performing if she was still sick on drugs.

I've mentioned this before both here and on YT that there are many talented artists that never get their big break; it's really alot of luck involved and Mitch most likely sacrificed any kind of career as a singer all those years he drove cab, worked in casinos, etc. so he could send his daughter to private school and help her with her career.

that comment was not fair. you obviously do not know what he did to save her.

Anyone from the forum going to this session at Jazz After Dark? I'm at an IT expo that day with work and travelling down there from Manchester, couldn't believe Mitch was performing there that same night!, rang Jazz After Dark and they've booked me in, no tickets pay on the door £10 entrance fee, choose to eat there or just have a drink, be nice to see anyone from the forum there on the night and say hello.

Paul
