Amy Winehouse dress sells for £43,000 at auction

The singer’s dress makes over four times what was expected

Amy Winehouse’s dress, which she wore on the European cover of her Back to Black album, hit auction and was bought by a private fashion house in Chile, Fundacion Museo De La Moda.
The ensemble was created by London design graduate, Disaya and fetched £43,000 auction.
The designer decided to donate the dress to Kerry Taylor auctions earlier this month.
The proceeds raised from the sale will go to The Amy Winehouse Foundation, which was a charity set up after Amy’s passing that aims to help young children.
Mitch Winehouse, Amy's father, told The Telegraph newspaper: "I can't put into words how grateful I am to Kerry and Disaya for their support and hard work.
"We are just over the moon, and this is a wonderful start to the foundation. We are off to visit a homeless charity in Euston tomorrow and so the money will go to a good cause straight away."

I'm glad a museum and not a particular bought it, because this means that everyone who's interested can see it.
But I think what Mitch's doing is not the right thing. He shouldn't be selling Amy's belongings to raise money for the foundation. He should create a museum to honour her legacy and put all her things there for people to see and then donate the money to the foundation. Don't you agree with me?

I love the idea of Amy museum in London! (OMG, how sad "museum" sounds in Amy context :( )

Tru, a museum wid all her clothes n suchlike, fairplay it raises money, but theres others ways, if they had a museum or somewhere, dat would raise money also, but fans would have somewhere to go to see all Amy like things, someone tweet him, lol.

He shdnt sell all her belongings, museum or memorial place is more fittin, when are tha fans guna get an Amyy memorial, as in service or sumat, all other celebs get em, n by God, was she loved, lotsa ppl wanna pay their respects, n we got nowhr to go, aside from her ole houses, whr other ppl now live. x

Not sure if I got this right (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) but my understanding is the dress belonged to the designer Disaya and was returned to her after the shoot for the european CD cover of Back 2 Black, think Mitch was just grateful she donated it to raise money for the foundation.

Would have been nice to have seen it in some museum in Amy's hometown Camden or London though, along with some of Sams paintings of Amy, I know Sam told me that Amy wanted to open a gallery with him to show off his potraits of her.

Yes, you're right paulh202. Amy never actually owned the dress, they borrowed it for her for the shoot and it was donated by the designer for the auction. So Mitch is not selling off her belongings.
