I've listened at least once to most of the 75 or so of Amy's songs that are available online, but many of these songs are too subtle and rich to fully appreciate with just one or two hearings (at least for me). I have to "live" with these songs for a while to really appreciate what this extraordinary young woman was doing. It's even more striking when you consider the musical maturity of a song like this coming from a teenager. "What It Is" was released with the Delux Edition of Frank on the second disc. It's a demo version where I think Amy is accompanying herself on the acoustic guitar. (Amy's style seems to be to to play chords almost exclusively.)
This is another one of those "gems" that too few people ever hear, unfortunately. If they did, they would have a much better idea of who Amy Winehouse actually was.
BTW: The pictures on this video a great too, except for the few with BFC.
