Hmm, I can't decide between the Wake Up Alone acoustic, A Song For You, Body and Soul and Between The Cheats. I prefer the Wake Up Alone demo/acoustic to the final Back To Black version, A Song For You I just find so sad just because it is so fitting and you can hear how much emotion she's putting into it (even though the vocal and recording aren't the best), Body and Soul because her vocal on it is phenomenal and that last note is something special and Between The Cheats because it sounds like it had the potential to be a classic Amy song.

That's a tough question, as I often change my mind on this one...

Tears Dry On Their Own and Wake Up Alone are better on Lionness than on B2B, I enjoy listening to these versions a lot!

I like the lyrics of Between the Cheats, the wit, and the running theme/imagery throughout the song, a lot like Love is a Losing Game.

Like Smoke and Half-Time remind me fondly of the Frank era, so thumbs up to these one too!

I don't actually like Amy's version of Girl from Ipanema (too upbeat) or Will You Still Love me Tomorrow (it's good, but I'm just too attached to the original Carol King version).

And Song for You...well, what can i say, WOW!...whenever it comes on I stop whatever I'm doing and just have to listen, it's captivating and haunting...and it makes me wish Amy had done more soul music, not so much the doo-wop girl band 6Os music she was so good at in B2B, but real gut-wrenching dripping with emotion soul music...we had a glimpse of her immense talent at singing soul with Paul Weller on Jools Holland, god I wish she was still around to blow us away some more!

If I had to pick one I think it would have to be Song for You.

I voted for between the cheats but i also love half time. Like smoke makes me feel sad because you can tell that it would have been a great song if amy had finished it. Saalam said she wrote more lyrics for it...would love to know what they were.

When it comes to Amy, I can't pick just ONE song. I have a top 3 favorite from Lioness though. Not in any particular order:

"Between the Cheats" Made me cry when I first heard it. The doo-wop & chorus sound like tears to me. Her emotion throughout the whole song, the cleaver lyrics. The song breaks my heart because it's just not fair that we won't hear anything this great anymore. I want more Amy!

"Like Smoke" No offence to Nas, but this would of been such a great song by Amy ALONE! The music, the way she sings it, the lyrics. In fact, I'm going to have "Like smoke I hung around in the unbalanced" tattooed on me. I listen to the "solo" version someone made on the internet.


"Half Time" Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, sweet, sweet, sweet! I don't know why this did not make it to "Frank" it's just beautiful. The lyrics, the music. It was Amy at her finest even when she was so young.

Yeah, I heard the Lioness Version of "Will you still love me" and the one on the internet with just Amy's voice is good enough! He didn't have to add the fake girl group and the big orchestra type of sound. Hated it!

I would double-check those lyrics before getting them tattooed on me; I don't think that's what she sings there.

I think it's "Like smoke I hung around and be your balance"... that's what I hear anyway.

Girl from Ipanema just for the scat. She was a great scat singer. The Frank intro makes that statement loud and clear. If she had lived I think she would have eventually come back around to jazz. She could breath new life into any song. A standards album would have been fantastic with her unique vocal.

I will probably get stoned for this but I actually prefer Lioness over Frank.

 

I know it's a posthumous release and Amy might not have wanted it, but it's very uplifting and beautiful to me.

[The Other Side]

I like all of them, but the ones that i really like is "Best Friends, Right?" and "Halftime".
