The truth about what?

The unreleased songs, i asked him if he knew about all of them and then he blocked me. He heard about When My Eyes long after her death, which shows that he isn't completley aware.

I just came back from the screening. I saw the film but I had to leave before the Q&A because my friend I went with had a minor emergency haha. Just some notes on it:

- This forum is thanked in the credits!

- There's clean audio of We're Still Friends from the Union Chapel show. It's AMAZING. The direct recordings of that show must be out there, it's a shame they've not been released in any form.

- Moon River from the NYJO recording is a brief snippet; the arrangement is more jazz based than the original recording. The audio quality isn't amazing.

- I left the film feeling crushed. You see this girl at the beginning, bright eyed and witty and hungry, change and enter a rapid downward spiral and by the end you see a tired, defeated little girl who needs a way out but there is no easy answer. It's fucking tragic.

- I'm very familiar with Amy's story but the film humanises it and grounds everything in context. It felt like it could be longer - her relationship with her parents and a few other people could have been elaborated on but you get the sense it would have been even more bleak.

- Mitch and Raye come out of the film looking extremely culpable. Raye's approach to Amy was cold and business like, and he was almost dismissive of Juliette, Lauren and Nick's concerns (when they tried intervening, he dismissed them and told them bankers and high rollers etc all manage to function on heavy drugs, it's just how things are). Editing can only do so much; from what he said he's gone down in my estimation massively.

- I think a soundtrack is unlikely; there's Detachment, We're Still Friends, a different Tears Dry On Their Own demo and a few other small bits (ie. a Like Smoke demo) that are in releasable quality but 80% of the stuff in the film's audio quality was poor and unfortunately I don't think any record label would ever put some of it out.

I'll edit bits in as I think of them. Feel free to ask any questions.

After seeing it, I feel a little like I did after reading the biographies by her parents. She was a beautiful human being who was damaged by incredibly unhealthy and dependent relationships with people who ultimately had selfish intentions and others who were happy to participate in the car crash without taking decisive action. There's nothing more fucking tragic. In spite of the music, the fame or whatever, she was a kid and seeing everything she had to endure, mentally and physically, is horrific. I'm not remotely religious but I really hope she's at peace now. No one deserves to be in that situation, you feel hopeless for her just watching it. I understand why many of the reviews mentioned the idea of the viewer feeling culpable. To see a young life spiralling and knowing no meaningful intervention was made is just sad.

Just saw the film also!

I really liked it, I thought it balanced and fair. Don't know why Mitch so uptight, it only spoke the truth in terms of the pressure she was under to perform on occasions.

Loved the old home videos of her on holiday with her friends, she seemed so happy at that time. I didn't love so much the drug ones (but that's part of her story I guess).

Performance footage was amazing as was NYJO snippets.

They really gave you an insight into the intrusion on her life by the paps, they did this very well (you will realise what I mean when you see it).

All in all I thought they did a great job. Shame more people who knew her towards the very end didn't speak to them or weren't included. Tyler James only spoke a few words throughout which I felt a shame.

Can't wait to hear what you all think :)

I saw the film too. My favorite part was the Nick Shymansky clips - I could have watched them all day. It was really interesting seeing how unhappy she was during B2B the phase, all these iconic pictures and moments we regard so highly meant nothing to her.

Alex Clare and other people were not even mentioned. I just cant believe how quickly the film whizzed past - I learnt nothing new. However, I never quite realized how intelligent she was; after looking at her tweets and more popular interviews I presumed Amy wasn't the smartest person, but a drunk voice mail to Salaam, around 2010, made me step back and think wow this girl is something else.

Although its great for the public, I feel the Amy fans can taking little from the film apart from the AMAZING HDfootage/clips/audios. Hopefully more audios and clips will come to surface. I would LOVE to see like a documentary or film based on the 2003/2004 promotional tour/backstage stuff... and just clips with her and her friends.

I cant wait to watch it again and fully take everything in.

I've just got back and it's a great film, very difficult to watch in parts. One of the most heart breaking things in the film for me was the phone call she made to NIck Shymansky about her unconditional love for him and that despite him not answering or returning her calls she would love him until the day she died.

The Serbia footage was very difficult to watch and Tyler stating that despite her insisting she did not want to do the concert, Raye collected her drunk off the sofa and the next she knew she was at the airport. The clips of her sat on the side of the stage she looked just like a little girl that desperately wanted someone to make it better.

I also got my question asked at the Q&A about the press intrusion that was also very difficult to watch.

Oh just remembered Raye's comment "i fulfilled my obligation of getting her to do what she had to do, so it was up to the family to deal with the rest". This was said when they were trying to get her to rehab. I thought that telling as he always proclaimed to have helped her get better. That made me sad when I heard him say that.

Got to see it also and wow, well I left the thearter in silence and almost speechless, I will need to go and see it again so it can sink in. It's so sad and it will make you fucking angry but it's also, well kind of fucking fabulous at the same time. Blake on his wedding day video will make you want to spit at him, the twat, but Mitch is not all that bad I don't think, don't know what his problem is if I'm to be honest. Soundtrack? We have no chance, it's not going to happen im afraid guy's, not from what I can see. David Joseph! That's the stats name who has destroyed Amy's tunes, let's all go and hunt him down.

Did anyone here stay for the Q&A? If so, were there any interesting questions or surprising answers?

The movie was absolutely hearbreakingly beautiful. It  was just simply stunning and I dont think the team making it could have done a better job. All the footage of Amy is just fantastic and really shows the real Amy, the reason I am such a huge fan of hers. So much of it gave me goosebumps

I actually felt alot of emapthy towards Blake. He was such a lost soul. When he said he tried to cut his wrists when he was nine, my heart actually hurt.

I could go on about who comes out looking bad, or good but its all pointless because its all about Amy - and she comes out of it looking like a funny, beautiful happy, amazing, deep, iconic, talented young, beautiful woman

Just been reading an interview with Asif Kapadia, he has been discussing how he needed to cut the film from three hours down to the two hour version we have in cinemas, he was explaining why he needed to take out the interview with Reg, just technical reasons. However, he plans to put out the original directors cut when we get the DVD release, no date given, but it will also include Reg Travis contributions and some more uncomfortable scenes of Amy taking drugs. So guys, we can look forward to another hours worth of Amy when the DVD hits the stores...splendid.
