Let's remember that epic night first...

 

Amy performed at the Grammy's via video link from London after being refused a visa to enter the US for the awards ceremony. At the 11th hour, Amy Winehouse secured that elusive visa, but it was too late for the show so Amy performed via video link to the Staples Centre in Los Angeles where the Grammy's are held.

By the end of the 2008 Grammy Awards ceremony, Amy Winehouse had won five Grammys, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album for "Back to Black," and Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Performance all for "Rehab."

I absolutely loved this performance. She sang with the most conviction she'd ever had in a performance. I remember watching it the night it happened with my dad, and I was so nervous for her, but she really pulled it out of the bag. The end of Rehab where she just throws it all on the line is amazing. The best performance she ever gave in her career, I think, compounded by the fact that everyone thought she'd royally fuck it up. She came out looking and sounding fantastic. 

 

She should have won Album of the Year that night. Adele won it a couple of years ago and 21 is not half the album Back to Black is. Hell, there'd be no 21 if not for Back to Black. Lauryn Hill won for Miseducation too and I think Amy's album was as good as Lauryn's. Adele's isn't as good as either.
