2007.  At the end, look who she winks at.  The black guy.  The only interviewer that earned her respect.  That's my thoughts on it.  The chick was clueless.  What do you think about the wink?  For FB friends who see the same posts I make here that I make there, sorry for the redundancy.  :)

MTV, from the moment it first began, has been dominated by absolute utter wankers for interviewers. Look at Tim Kash's interviews with Amy throughout her career for an key example of this.

As for this interview in particular, from 4:18 to 4:40, when she was ambushed with the question about the drinking. Like who the fuck does that, what sort of decent interviewer would do something like that? Have a conversation with somebody, don't just bombard them with questions that have a sting in the tail. Even the guy towards the end who spoke of people wanting to have a connection with her because of the music - what is she supposed to say to that? I mean I understand the relationship between an artist and their audience shouldn't be solely transactional, but at the same time there's bounds of reason as to how much your admiration for someone can go before it gets sort of awkward, especially when you're face-to-face with that artist.

I don't know, this whole interview has always struck me as being just really icky and fake. The only person who actually spoke to her on a human to human level was, as you say, the black interviewer. Maybe if more people/media outlets did that then she wouldn't have been criticised for being hostile, I'm not sure.

@pearljo, this interview pissed me off so much the first time I saw it that I'll never watch it again. I didn't catch the wink but I remember some of the interactions w/ K-OS (the black dude) were awkward as well...didn't he intimate that he wanted to work w/ her or something? This was just one the weirdest interviews ever, and I remember that I just wanted to jump through my monitor and scoop her up out of there when I saw it. I just found it creepy and awkward...

I'm only half-joking when I say this: I'm convinced that MTV has some form of finishing school that all presenters have to graduate from before they're allowed on the air.  In it, they learn how to act like a very specific type of clueless, always-too-loud, "cool" douchebag.  They graduate as clones of the same douchebag...I just can't figure out who they're modeled after. But they all have essentially the same "personality".

I think the black guy was looking at her so probably was a wink for him as a way of "thx for trying to be nice between all these wankers" lol but generally she seems to do the winking as a cute and fun way of saying thanks or goodbye.

I wish there would have been more interviews with her like those "on the couch" ones etc where they talk about random stuff, if I would ever get the chance to interview someone awesome like her I would probably ask her about everyday things like what movie she watched last and if she liked it or not, which new singer she discovered recently or what was the last thing she cooked etc.,

No one really talked to her about designing clothes for example, I read she was even knitting sometimes, would have been nice to hear more about that side of her or when she was djing at some pubs, how did that come around and if she enjoyed it...

ugggh, I never liked this interview.

I think she was already very fragile before this interview, as if she was on a come-down or something, and they just push her into a corner. It's painful to watch. She starts to retreat into herself when K-OS first complements her and then mentions her life being under a microscope, and it clearly makes her uneasy. She's trying to convey a feeling of not giving a shit, that everyhting's alright, just water off her back... yet they seem to have touched a nerve. It's around this time that the attention was getting to her in my opinion. But she really did not want to discuss it with them. And they just keep going on and on, and then the question about drinking. Ugh! K-OS realises that they messed up and tries to make up for it at the end. And I think that's why he gets the wink from Amy at the end. She's sort of saying "that was terrible, but no hard feelings". Meanwhile, that woman is oblivious!

I post a lot while thinking too much.  (PWNT)  It started bad from the very first question.  It was about how excited she was about the Prince thing.  What's this about Jay Z?  Like she needed validation from anyone.  I'm actually sorry I posted this at all.  I wished she had done what she was probably thinking, get up and walk out.
