Our very own Greg Boraman was lucky enough to see Amy in action recently, delivers his take of Radio 2's latest prodigy and her performance.

Amy's own meteoric rise appears to yet impact upon Amy Winehouse; her amiable and relaxed demeanour during this short set performed in front of the music industry, may mean that two Brit Award nominations and instant accolades have, so far, failed to unnerve this 20 year old North London singer/songwriter. Her debut album Frank was only released last October and yet the excitement and genuine praise she has already attracted speaks volumes about her instant appeal. Resplendent in a 1940's style char ladies headscarf (and some seriously attention seeking heels!) Amy seems a totally relaxed character, bemused rather than unnerved by the constant praise and tips for the top.

Amy Winehouse in PersonIn fact, her confidence allows her to perform alone, with just the odd wisecrack and the accompliament of her own funky guitar chords to back up that voice. And it is the voice that is really the secret of her appeal. The '20-a-day' jazz styling and the apparent but not overbearing musical influences blend into a seriously versatile instrument. Kicking off this set with the very cheeky 'Love is Blind' - it is staggering to hear how Winehouse stretches out her own melodies and lyrics, crossing the beat, improvising with ease and displaying an apparently effortless ability to imbue her hook laden compositions with real attitude, humour and personality. Furthermore, having checked a few of her recent live performances, it is now clear that Winehouse rarely performs any of her songs the same way twice - in a genuine jazz tradition.

Performing other highlights from Frank including the debut Stronger Than Me, Take The Box and In My Bed, one has the feeling that for Amy at least, these songs are already standards, and she is itching to let us hear the next batch of her acerbic, witty, honest and well observed lyrics, all framed within her unique retro yet contemporary urban soul/jazz template.

There are few artists whose wide appeal can result in their music gracing both the Radio 2 and 1Xtra play lists at the same time. It says a great deal about her musical knowledge, ability, influences and very natural talent. What is exciting is that the best is surely yet to come.

There are three files available under the format .asx, which can be downloaded, but I haven't made it to play them, so don't know whether they are the original songs or the songs played that night

One more lost video interview:

Video: Amy Winehouse and eight everyday objects

'Did you get all that from the corner shop?'
Her new album's got rave reviews across the board and with tales of late-night antics filling the gossip pages, she's got that angle covered too. But what does Amy Winehouse make of pomegranates? Or the washing up? Or, for that matter, Rasputin the mad monk? She told all to Guardian Unlimited Music.

"Ben Jones spoke to Amy Winehouse backstage (in the beer garden of the Travel Inn), at Isle of Wight Festival 2007 - the year the Rolling Stones headlined. Amy and Paolo Nutini both joined the Stones on stage to share duets with Mick Jagger.

http://web.archive.o...nehouse-concert

This is a link to a 35min concert, and it is not stated which concert it is. This is from UNiversal's official site in Germany.

Update: My fault, sorry, it is the New Pop Festival 2004, it has a screenshot when running the simple link:

More information on videos that yet need to be found:

  • Amy sang "B2B" live at The DL acoustic session in 2007
  • Amy sang "I'm No Good" acoustic during a 2007 Glastonbury interview.
  • Her perfomance at shepherds bush empire 2007 the night before the official DVD recording took place -in which Elton John with his boyfriend were some of the attendees- (she perfomed two shows in that theather so I think the other perfomance was likely to be recorded as well)
  • "Night Time is the Right Time"(sung at Hotenanny 2004 with a bunch of other artists)
  • "We Are Still Friends" live at 45th at night. For some reason it wasn't included in the official broadcast.
  • Footage of Amy performing "Losing Game" feat. Prince
  • Footage of Amy singing at Union Chapel (Little Noise Sessions, 2006): One of her best perfomances!
  • Amy lip-synching Take The Box live at Trevor Nelson's Lowdown (BBC THREE)  Nov 2003 (only a snippet was released a couple of weeks ago on her IG account)
  • Good quality of "I Heard it Through The Gravepine" w/ Weller live at Electric Proms 2006.
  •  "I'll Be Seeing You" live at "Billie and Me" celebration. Barbican theatre.
  • Footage of "I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa" live at Q Awards 2004
  • "I Heard It Through the Gravepine" live at the Blues bar (this same night  )
  • Her concert at Russia back in 2010 (only a snippet of Cupid was released)
  • Amy live at 100 club in London just before her Belgrade shambolic perfomance (a perfomance which was very well praised by some of the attendees. Picture attached)

Don't waste your time looking for this one. He had the date and venue mislabeled in his YouTube post for "I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa" live at Q Awards 2004.

The only known source for this song is from BBC Radio 2's 'The Gospel according to Christmas', hosted by Jamelia and recorded live at Union Chapel in December 2004.

Amy, if you are up there listening, thank you for sharing the incredible soundtracks of your life ...
