Did anyone check out the 2021 Atmos mix of Back To Black on streaming?
Essentially a quad 4.1 mix with the center channel silent. I was hoping this mix would be a way to bypass the Loudness Wars, as it often is with surround mixes, but the front channels are still brickwalled like the stereo mix. I was been very impressed with the sonics of some Atmos mixes like the ones done for Kacey Musgraves where a natural dynamic range was reinstated but that was sadly not the case here. Still, it's nice to have an alternate mix of the album and I very much enjoy isolating different elements in the mix and make custom stereo mixes. Rear channels has reverb, backing vocals, strings, some horns, guitars and other stuff and you'll get a sparse mix with dry vocals in front channels. The downside is that it's lossy compressed on all platforms. Fun stuff!
