When Amy goes upstairs (this scene really really breaks my heart!) there is a capture of the canary (Ava) posing on a ladder with a white background. I know that maybe the ladder is related to Amy's moving to her brand new home but... What does this symbolism mean? Why is the bird on a ladder with a completely white background? 

I assume the white background is related to 'being in heaven' or whatever you want to call it. But why does the bird appear on an actual ladder? Wasn't the ladder unnecessary for this particular scene?

great question! i took the symbolism as her going to be with ava. ladders are used to reach things above, as well as her walking up the stairs, so i took it as her going up into the clouds (aka heaven, if you're religious). the white represents purity and new beginnings. now, my interpretation is probably very casual and it's more than likely that there is a much deeper meaning to everything than what i interpreted.

Thank you for your words! The meaning of ladder is completely new to me but it really makes sense! Very interesting the parallelism between Ava's ladder and Amy's stairs. She was preparing her way to heaven! How moving! I'm in tears just thinking about that... God bless her.
