i just found a youtube video where Amy and Billie Holiday's voices come together in a beautiful duet of Body and Soul. listening to Billie's other interpretations, i thought her voice sounded very similar to Amy's, especially in the song Solitude. have you guys ever made this comparison before? i just discovered Billie's work and was impressed.

Their contraltos sound similar but however, Amy's vocal range is far wider. I love Billie, but she barely had one octave of range.

I remember someone made the Billie Holiday comparison to Amy and she said about Billie Holiday "fuck her". It's the Brits 2008 interview I believe. 

 

A bit disappointing, but I think she was just fed up of always being compared to her at that point. She did sing at a Billie Holiday tribute event I believe, so she can't have hated her that much.

I don't think Amy hated billie holiday. I just think she was tired of the comparisons.
