Blake Filder Civil podcast interview

There’s a new 2 hour interview on a podcast called “We Need To Talk” where Blake Fielder Civil talks about Amy, their past in great detail and his current life.
Link to the interview here:

I learnt a few new insights here (such as Amy using c0ke before even meeting Blake, which reminds me of the same exact thing that happened to Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown), and it was a huge deep dive.

I don’t think Blake has done a big interview like this before in the past.

Your thoughts on this?

I made an anonymous poll, you are free to answer your opinion regarding this current situation.
(The second poll is a multiple choice one).

Opinions on him and drug use:
  • I still hate him. He made Amy change her perspective on heavy substance use. He is partially responsible for her death and downfall in 2011..
  • Neutral. I don’t hate him, I don’t take his side either. I think he was just a young guy, addicted. His actions and behaviours are similar to other addicts. He took advantage of Amy’s wealth to fuel his using.
  • I’m okay with him. I think he didn’t have anything to do with Amy’s passing. I think he takes all the blame but there other people out there responsible for what happened in 2011.
  • I like him a little bit and I understand why Amy loved him. He seems like a guy that got caught up with substances, got lost in them. He is not responsible for her death.
  • I’m not sure yet
  • I don’t want to say, I’m not comfortable sharing

If your opinion changed regarding Blake through the years then who do you think holds responsibility for her passing?
  • Mitch (her father - absent during her important teenage years)
  • Janis (her mother -absent during Amy’s ongoing addiction, let Amy make her choices herself)
  • The media (open harassment from the paparazzi, stalking, invasion of privacy)
  • Amy herself (many people have stated that Amy did whatever SHE wanted and nobody could change her mind)
  • Her fake friends cycle (enabling behaviour around Amy, some took advantage of the fact)
  • Lauren and other friends (abandoned her when she was using, didn’t want to indulge into that part of her life, made her feel alone)
  • The record label and her management (pushed her to the limits for a new album and made Amy anxious and stressed to perform)
  • Circumstance (accident, nobody is to blame, it was a circumstancancial death paired with her poor lifestyle)
  • Her bulimia (which were triggered by magazines calling her chubby during Frank, made her feel insecure for the rest of her life)
  • Her mental problems (past depression that probably got triggered back in 2011 due to loneliness, some psychologists claim Amy might have had borderline or bipolar disorder)
  • Addiction (she couldn’t kick her habits, no matter how much she tried, she’s one of the many similar cases in young women falling into this black hole)
  • Reg Travis (her last boyfriend -absent in general, from different accounts Amy had a thing for him and he left her, causing her relapse)
  • Suicide (some people believe Amy took her own life, an act of suicide, she didn’t want to be a celebrity anymore, different accounts state Amy hated being famous)
  • Social media and the fans (people recording and sharing the Belgrade video which destroyed Amy’s reputation, career and self esteem)
  • Everybody, including us, our own selves (we put her on a pedestal as an artist, we didn’t support her enough)
  • All of the above
  • I’m not sure yet
  • I’m not comfortable choosing an answer

People here seem to be so obssesed with this guy…more than Amy’s herself.

I mean, who is going to waste two hours listening to someone who charged money to his wife or stole belongings while his wife was singing with Prince? What good things can this guy offer at this point?  Maybe releasing some new footage of Amy from his ‘‘videographer’’ days?

Yeah I guess, I understand your point. I personally listened to the interview because hey, it’s Blake, he rarely talks in media, I wanted to hear what he had to say. It was an interesting video, he takes accountability but also talks about addiction in detail.
We’ve seen and heard so many POVs and so many different opinions from old friends, family. I was curious to see what his take was on the Amy documentary etc.

In any case, without Blake in Amy’s life, no ‘Back to Black’.

I’ll invest two hours to listen to the podcast. Thanks for the posting.

The cause is probably a combination of all these things. Family situations, friendships, bad relationships, relationships with drug-addicted boys, and the fact that she herself was sensitive to drug use meant that success, the invasion of the media and paparazzi created the perfect mix for self-destruction.

also as people tipically say here in Italy, “who seeks the match, finds the match”

In my opinio the tragic, is that she was only capable of writing and singing songs about her own life. Her hit songs were all about personal loss, conflict, struggle, and self-destruction. She could joke about it (I’m immediately thinking of her comment before starting October Song at the North Sea Jazz Festival). But in the end, you can’t keep that up forever, I think.

Do you really believe a word of what he says?

Yeah Amy was a very honest person with no filter. Her songwriting was storytelling. That’s why for me she’s my favourite artist til this day.

No, I take everything with a grain of salt but it was interesting hearing his side of the story. I was more curious where he stands with Mitch nowadays and how things were after Amy’s passing.
