What do you all think of the upcoming biopic?

I know everyone has their own thoughts on the Back to Black biopic being made. No judgement to anyone’s opinions on it at all! I genuinely would like to hear other fans’ thoughts

Honestly, I’m personally a bit worried about this movie. The more photos that’re released from filming, the worse her portrayal come off. Of course, Amy’s life had its dark times, but that wasn’t all of it from what we’ve heard from the people close to her.

Here’s a section of the U.S. Sun that stuck with me (not in a good way):

He told the Mail on Sunday: “I told my friend that Eddie was playing me and he said - excuse my French - ‘Eddie f***ing Marsan! He’s not very good-looking.’ I said, ‘I know - I wanted George Clooney!’”

He also told of clashes with director Sam Taylor-Johnson, saying: “I sent the first script back. It made me look like a saint - like I should be knighted. It was too much.”

Filming for Back to Black began in London last month but fans were concerned that Amy Winehouse actress Marisa Abela, 26, did not look like her and could not match her voice.

Mitch said: ‘When Marisa started, I said to the producer, “But she can’t sing.” And she replied, “She’s having lessons’”.

He added: “She’s a lot better.”

Director Taylor-Johnson was one of Amy’s friends and Back To Black is seen as a counterbalance to the 2015 documentary Amy, which showed Mitch in a poor light.

But Amy’s mum Janis, 67, has said the film has reopened painful memories of her ex-husband’s long-running affair.

I attached a few photos that were making the rounding on social media in the beginning of 2023. So far, I haven’t seen anything where she’s depicted as happy. I’ve also seen a lot of her dad’s character in leaked photos of filming.

What do you guys think?

I’m tired of hearing about the same old bs about her substance abuse problems etc. Why can’t they focus on her musicianship? Her jazz guitar skills and lyrical abilities.

Soooooo agree!! She was first and foremost an artist! Her successful blend of hip hop and jazz sounds and techniques (as a white Jewish girl from North London!!)—unparalleled! Glad you also brought up her guitar skills; funny enough I was just watching a compilation of her guitar playing! Are you planning on seeing the biopic when it comes out?

Is Mitch Winehouse behind this?

He approved it…

Fair play to whoever edited that trailer. It wasn’t as terrible as I thought it was going to be.

But is that Amy’s singing voice in the trailer? It’s either a different take of Back to Black, or someone else singing.

I hope they use Amy’s singing voice in the film. That was the biggest flaw of the Judy Garland biopic.

Without the magic of Amy’s voice, this film will feel even more unjustified.

Okay I’m going to pretend this doesn’t exist. Mortifying!!

Would’ve loved if this had been approached in a more experimental way like Todd Haynes’ I’m Not There.

It doesn’t have anything to do with Amy, the way I see it. It’s just impersonation and fiction.

Target audience is probably casual fans and potential new fans anyway, not devotees.

I hope it’s not too sleazy.

i mean, the Trailer made me feel a bit better, i liked the part where she was getting her tattoo. it still looks cheap

Well, maybe we should wait to see the whole thing before judging. What do you think? Anyways, I like the fact Amy is “on the spot” again thanks to this movie. Talents like her’s should never be forgotten, she changed the music industry radically. I just hope 2 things:

  1. Mitch W. is not involved in this. Otherwise, I wouldn’t pay a penny for this.

  2. They portrait Amy showing her inteligence and talent. I am not interested very much in her personal life, her privacy was way too much invaded during her lifetime (and known by everyone).

I hope that the movie will mostly focus on Amy’s artistry and remarkable talent… the Amy I read about in memoirs and the Amy as she was: a beautiful soul. The director isn’t receiving any positive attention because of her past (which I can see why…), and the actress does not resemble Amy in the slightest! I thought the “I ain’t no Spice Girl” line was funny.

I’m secretly hoping with this upcoming biopic they release some new material. Here’s to wishing… ♡
