i know very little about englands healthcare system other than the nhs being socialized medicine and that employers can offer private insurance so their employee doesn't have to wait 8 weekds for a routine procedure. (time mag)

so i'm wondering why amy didn't just buy her own insurance plan instead of living like a not famous musician instead of paying astronomical healthcare bills? obviously it doesn't matter now but i'm just curious.

I'm poor so only use NHS services so I can only speculate. Many private health insurance plans do not cover psychiatric care / addiction treatment. They would also have to approve the places you go to for your treatment so maybe they did not offer the freedom of choice Amy wanted. It is also difficult to get insurance with certain pre existing medical conditions.

On the other hand, maybe Amy did have health insurance, with her record it would probably have been an expensive insurance plan anyway, and she then still had to pay extra for certain procedures not covered by her policy.

Off topic, but I am very grateful to have the NHS.

In England you can pay private healthcare in a payment plan. But if you got the money you get better treatment faster. I think it's a different system to what you have in the USA! Paying health insurance in small installments to pay for expensive treatment you may need in the future is not how it's done in UK.

My reaction to 2m pounds:

Thats it? She sold 15m+ albums between Frank and Black to Black. She's a songwriter and publishing is $$$$. On top of that, she wasn't some manufactured puppet who the label had to invest and create so she should have a higher royalty rate. By saying that, she probably had a smaller advance.
I don't know industry rates but she should have been making money from her albums.
We know she had to have blown a lot of money but still.
The tax rate in England is about half from what I know so there's that.
The little bit of touring and private shows she did should have netted her a good chunk of change
Whatever she made from singles, covers, TV, and radio play (publishing)
As far as buying her house, why not? No one likes interest rates. If I could avoid them and still have a ton of cash on hand, I'd go for it.
I'm not expecting Gaga who 100m in a year. Mostly from a tour.
Beyonce who usually makes 80m when she throws in a tour, album, and endorsement
Hell, Adele should easily make 40m this year just from sales of 19 and 21 and singles. (She said she made 8m from 19 and had to pay half in taxes and its sold a fraction)

I'm not her accountant, but even I know that she left behind much more than $2M.

Come on Daily Mail, you can do better than that and you know it.

Maybe they're speaking actual cash money in a bank account or something. You have her albums/single (which I'm sure after her death brought in more than 2 million alone.), Lioness records, the clothing line, her estate, etc... She's WORTH more than $2 million.

IDK.

Amy, are you happy?
She squints suspiciously at me.
"About what?"
About life.
"I'm happy about this salad."

my wild ass guess, and that's all it is, would be 10-15M. I don't know for sure if Lioness had even covered startup costs much less brought in any real money. she had to pay bigger fish to do distribution, advertising, etc. how many hits did it have?

clothing line...startup costs, advertising is all very expensive. you have to sell a lot of stuff just to break even.

it all depends on how much debt she was carrying and i'm not sure there was any or just a little.

again, i'm GUESSING. i hope she had 50M stashed away.
