Gaga, to me, is the type of person that can take what talent she has then work her ass off to be better. It's work ethic I think.
I don't listen to her except a few video's because her music doesn't touch me at all.

I can play most artist's cd's in the car and when btb comes on it's on such a higher level. And that's comparing bands I've loved forever.

In what way is GaGa promoting herself by using Amy? The woman is world-famous, for better or worse. I don't think she needs any more promotion! FYI - Tony Bennett CHOSE the artists he admired and wanted to work with. There was no lobbying on her part. She knows the score. He was very well aware of her, and from all accounts, she was thrilled to be chosen.

Of course she's a fame whore, and is the first to admit it - that's a huge part of her persona. It's pointless imo, to compare Amy and GaGa. They are nothing remotely like each other - musically or stylistically or in terms of personality. It's like comparing the NY Times to The National Enquirer.

The one thing that they do share, imo, is that neither one of them is anyone's lip-synching puppet. Both composed their own songs, and were very much their own boss. As much as that is possible in the music biz.

Final point on Tony's opinion of GaGa. I am paraphrasing here but he said he considers her to be the most versatile performer since Elvis Presley. He remarked that her piano playing was oustanding. High praise indeed.

It's my belief that all sessions from Duets II were filmed, and that the DVD is going to be part of a 'Deluxe' reissue at some point.

Actually, Tony Bennett mentioned on BBC Breakfast that his son Dan managed the Duets albums and chose popular artists for Tony to work with.

^ Exactly. I don't see how Gaga is promoting herself through Amy's death there, she was just one of the artists asked to duet with Bennett, just like Amy was. Obviously we've been focussing discussion on his collaboration with Amy, but he never planned on just working with her alone. I don't believe Body and Soul would even have been a single if it hadn't been for Amy's passing
I never listened to Lady Gaga before (I'd heard her music in passing, in shops or on the radio and seen her pictures, but never *listened* to her, just not my thing - seemed like a rehash of Madonna to me). I think she does a good job here though, the choice of song suits her voice well, but I don't think she's comparable to Amy's at all. Gaga's style seems more theatrical, while Amy has a more natural jazz sound. I'd go for Amy over Gaga any day...

That's right it wouldn't have been a single but for the tradedy of her death!

I wasn't into Lady Gaga, still not - like you I just heard her on the radio or TV by accident. She like Madonna with wacky out fits and wacky songs!

Though Tony Bennett reckons she could be bigger than Elvis. Check out this interview that was on TV this morning...

I was pleasantly surprised by Gaga's voice, but I'm not really fond of all that theatre. Tony's right, she's a talented performer but it doesn't mean anything to me

Yeah, in the BBC interview he says Gaga "might become one of the greatest entertainers" ever. So he doesn't necessarily mean she's the most talented singer. Different animal alltogether. I think it's been obvious from the interviews that he thought Amy was the most gifted singer.
