Amy Winehouse's father Mitch is to publish a memoir about his late daughter after signing a book deal which will benefit the charity set up in her name.

The singer, who fought a public battle with drink and drugs, died in July.

Mitch said writing the "true story" in his book Amy, My Daughter, will help him to come to terms with her death.

Publisher HarperCollins will release the book next summer and described it as a "heartfelt and revelatory memoir".

All proceeds will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation which has been set up to help children and young adults facing difficulties.

The book is said to bring "the many layers of her life together - the personal, the private and the public".

Mitch said: "I feel that I need to write this book to tell the true story of Amy and to help with my personal recovery.

"I also want to raise as much money as possible for Amy's foundation, so all proceeds from the book will go directly to help children who are disadvantaged through illness and substance addiction.

"I believe that through Amy's music, her foundation, and this book, her name will live forever."

Nick Canham, the editorial director of Harper Non-Fiction, said: "The strength Mitch Winehouse has shown over recent months is truly admirable.

"His desire to create a definitive account of Amy's life, that will solely benefit the foundation he has established in her name, is something that we are incredibly proud to be part of."

I'll read it for sure! I'd love to read something by Amy's mum as well - I don't know why I think she understood Amy better. maybe it's only me but I have this impression.

yep, same here. wow, so glad and finally something worthwile reading about! To be able to read directly from someone that knew her better than any biographer could possibly, not to have the sensationalistic read, and best of all....all proceeds going to the foundation.
:'-(She was the DiVinci of my music world!
