AN early favourite on The Voice last night spoke about his friendship with music icon Amy Winehouse.

Nate James, who will appear on next Saturday’s BBC1 show, said his memories of the late star helped him impress the judges at his audition.
The 33-year-old said: “Amy was a delight to be around, even during the hard times. We were best friends.
“She was so passionate about music – we used to sit in my apartment and drink Jack Daniels together while writing songs. We’d jam and cook food.
“We were really close so it was very inspiring to see someone you love dearly succeed.”
Nate, pictured above with Amy, also spoke of his devastation when she died, aged 27, in July 2011.
He said: “It knocked me for six. I really was a mess for a couple of days. Some of the stuff Amy did broke my heart.
“And the fact that she was on the way to repairing herself when she passed away made it worse.
“But I try to focus on the positive.”
Nate, who has already released two albums, said his friendship with Back To Black star Amy got him through his audition for The Voice.
He added: “She is a massive inspiration to me. I sing for her and family.”
Nate is also pals with former Voice finalist Tyler James, 28, after being introduced to him by Amy.
“Me, Tyler and Amy were the Three Musketeers, going out and about and having fun in London,” he said.
He added that Tyler is championing him for success on the new series.
