LOS ANGELES (Reuters Life!) – Grammy-winning singer Natalie Cole has been diagnosed with hepatitis C and probably contracted the liver disease from drug use more than 30 years ago, according to her publicist.
“The virus, found during a routine examination, is likely the result of her drug use many decades ago,” her publicist Lellie Capwell said in a statement released on Wednesday.
Cole, 58, the daughter of legendary singer Nat King Cole, is responding well to treatment but is suffering what doctors called “significant side effects” including fatigue, muscle aches and dehydration.
The singer, whose father died of lung cancer when she was 15, documented her addiction to cocaine, heroin and alcohol in her 2000 autobiography Angel On My Shoulder. She overcame her addiction after a lengthy stay in rehab in the early 1980s.
I don’t like what Natelie Cole said but nobody deserves to have a disease. Many recovering addicts become super judgemental because going to the opposite extreme is how they keep themselves sober.
I forgot about the hep C. Didn’t mean that kind of karma, more along the lines of a record tanking. I wish her well with hep C but I won’t forgive her for her lapse in judgment as far as Amy goes.
yeah i was mad wen i heard what she said… what right does she have to say something like that? i cant even think of a song by her off the top of my head. i think a lot of people like to comment on amy to get publicity, like that kate perry slag (no offence to any fans!)
I didn’t agree with Natalie’s comments about Amy, but I’m sad to hear she’s ill.
yeah, she twelve stepped Amy on a red carpet and got alot of publicity. I have zero respect for her. “Doesn’t deserve???” “Rewarding Bad behavior?” I liked what Ringo said when he heard her comments, “Man, those are some grapes!” She made a complete fool of herself.
It was wrong when she did that, but I certainly didn’t wish this for her. I just don’t know what people are thinking when they say things that they know should not be coming out of THEIR mouths. It’s just blind and WRONG! I hope for her a full recovery.

I would hope that Amy would learn a lesson from Natalie Cole’s health problems! Unfortunately, I doubt that Amy is paying attention. I think that this unlearned lesson is the real tragedy. 
Maybe Amy would have learned something if Natalie had come with a different approach. It’s hard to listen to someone who is being condescending.
Yes, she coulda’ been like I’ve been there.. but she chose a poor time to say what she did. I mean, I never heard her ever offer to return HER Grammys for winning them while under the influence. And remember, this is when we all THOUGHT Amy had just completed a rehab stint… way to knock a girl when she’s down. She had NO right to be so self righteous.
I believe Amy is making an effort right now for her own reasons. If she’s too addicted to put her own health at the forefront, it is unlikely that Natalie Cole’s troubles will influence her decisions. Her problems run far deeper than that.
You have to ask yourself, why didn’t Whitney, Natalie and others not learn from Janis or Jimi?
Why did so many country stars who followed him not learn from Hank Williams?
Addiction doesn’t care who you are or what you know. It’s a disease waiting for you to just fuck up once.
I didn’t like Natalie Cole’s comments saying Amy was being awarded for bad behaviour but I wouldn’t wish for her to have Hepatitis C.
