Mark Ronson Article

I found quite an interesting current Mark Ronson interview. It’s a bit long, so I will just post the link.

Here’s what he had to say about working with Amy:

Call me when you have songs, I won’t call you.

“Noel, I did write a song called Back To Black, which actually has seven chords in it.”
Lying, egotistical twit! Amy can do much better!

I do hope she gets back together with Ronson.

dont diss mark! its noel whos the fuckwit

Thanks Lainey. I think Mark is a nice guy, and talented. Amy doesn’t need him to make great records, but she does need to get her act together. I liked this quote…

“It’s fun to speak back if you have a good line to come back with,” he says. “In England, the tabloids have turned the music industry into a giant playground. Sometimes it’s amusing, other times it looks incredibly petty. It usually just depends if I’m in a forgiving mood that day.”

How true! Over here all the papers are talking about John Sergeant leaving Strictly Come Dancing. Who cares? Our ability to stick our heads in the sand astounds me sometimes.

And I was amused to read that Mark’s dad managed Roachford, does anyone remember them? ‘A cuddly toy is my only joy…’ *sigh*

Then explain that quote to me:"I did write a song called Back To Black".
He’s like an artist who can’t draw, but can make pretty pictures by cutting and pasting pieces of other artists work. And his Dylan remix was terrible.
If Amy thinks he’s the best guy to facilitate getting her musical vision across, without messing with it, then fine. That’s all a producer’s supposed to do.

I think Mark is GREAT. Same with Salaam Remi. Both have made Amy’s music sound magic, after the fact that Amy created the magic. I want it to continue.

Oh, now I get it! He’s an “Anglo-American sloe-eyed sex god.” lol

I liked the Dylan remix, and so did Bob himself. Personally i’ll listen to him 1st.
The role of a producer is to fufill the artists’ ambition, which Mark did on B2B brilliantly. He wrote all the music to the song Back to Black, which is quite remarkable, but he’s the 1st person to point out his inspiration. When someone’s creating a ‘retro’ record, its pretty hard not to ‘cut and paste’. As for Version, I’ll admit the songs get a bit repetitive, but Mark’s stated many times that it was a fun diversion for him and not the artistic statement that you were clearly expecting.

Amy seemed pretty happy with his work anyway!

What is the Bob Dylan Remix?

And relating to the article Alan posted, Mark surely did not “singlehandedly” resurrect the “60s soul diva!”

IMHO, people seem to have a hard accepting that Ronson added that special touch that sent Winehouse’s fame to the moon. Say what you will about Ronson’s production and arrangement style, it was a union that came at the right moment and at the right time. Only time will tell if this union can last. Right now, with a marriage up in the air, personal issues and pressures, Ronson’s and Winehouse’s relationship is on hiatus. No one is saying that Ronson is solely responsible for B2B’s success. IMHO, the Dap Kings have a major hand it in, too. All you have to do is look at the live concerts, on YouTube.

mark ronsons version of most likely you go your way and i’ll go mine.

Mark first wrote music for B2B, and then Amy wrote lyrics. So he was talking about instrumental part of the song.

I guess we could go back and forth on what the role of a producer ought to be. But having the right producer is absolutely crucial to an artist, IMO. Some of my favourite bands have produced better work when matched with the right person (and vice versa - some match-ups just do not work).

To me, ideally, the relationship is a collaboration (and good chemistry produces the best work) rather than just sitting at a desk pressing buttons - to me, that’s what the engineer does. But, that’s just my opinion.

I agree with you Lainey. The music to the song B2B is lush and borders on genius. It sweeps me away just as much or even more than the lyric. I really hope they work together again.

^^kev, I agree. If there was one standout track I HAD to choose from the album, it would be “Back to Black.” For me, it beats “Rehab.” Something about its sound, its production, maybe.

Oh, no. This can’t be good … lol

Not sure what this means. While my inner old man was hoping she’d dump Mark for Quincy Jones, I was really looking forward to the L. Gore cover song and I thought Mark was doing that with her. Hopefully she’s just concentrating on taking care of herself.
