Mobo Performance Comments

Comments from the Chicago Trib review, Amy Winehouse’s Shaky Return http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment\_popmachine/2007/09/amy-winehouses-.html “The very gifted Ms. Winehouse appears to be ripping a page from the book of Janis Joplin, i.e. a dynamic soulful voice mired in a web of drugs, booze, and bad relationship choices. If you have not heard her recorded music, please start there. In this day of talentless hip-hop soulsters, she is peerless. Her voice harkens to the best of Etta James, Irma Thomas, and Martha Reeves. It is always sad to see someone waste their gifts.” Posted by: Brian | Sep 20, 2007 1:54:48 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Complete autopilot. It’s sad when the performer has the least amount of energy in the entire theater. I think she still has a few more rock bottoms in her.” Watching it once was enough for me. Hope she pulls it together for all the road work she’s got coming up! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep, that sums her up at the moment. I keep hoping she gets back on track, but I’m having doubts. She is not the same Amy as 6 months ago. I have said this before, but it is obviously since she has been back in a relationship with Blake she has gone downhill! I don’t think Blake is the problem though. She is completely infatuated with him to the point were she probably thinks she could never live without him! Not good for her and not good for Blake either!! She is coming across as needy, desperate amd insecure! A huge turnoff in a relationship.

She is in denial, and just clings onto Blake like a scared child. If she doesn’t sort herself out, Blake may well walk away again!!!

Blake seen how well she was doing, before they got back together, she was confident, sexy and self assured - he was attracted to her again! She is the opposite now, how long before he walks away again? Tears Dry on Their Own - sadly I think her songs are going to come true again!

The thing is she was brilliant at The Mercury’s which left me with thoughts and hopes about her new beginning. I don’t know, I’ve been going to her myspace to listen to the the DL clips…the twinkle in her eyes, the self confidence, natural and relaxed demeanor, genius artistry. It’s all there. Hope she can get in touch with it again.

^ I agree, Kajay - that was really well put. I agree with kev that watching it once was enough - I felt kind of mortified for her.

Yup. that’s the perfect word, Lainey, “mortified…”

I can’t watch it a second time either. It just made me cringe.

Sadly enough, I think you’re right.
The Mercury Awards were a big up moment again, but now we’re back down.

I don’t think Amy and Blake should split up, I like Blake, and I doubt Amy would ever be able to get over a break-up (and maybe the same for Blake). I think if they would break up, Amy might be dead soon.

Sarah . . . your gonna make me cry again! Yh . . . i think Amy would get worse without Blake by her side! and i like Blake

I feel so sad for her, Amy needed to nail it last night but there was clearly someithing going on there and her heart definately wasn’t in that perfomance at all. I have just been watching the Somerset House concert which was only recorded 2 months ago and she was absolutely fantastic, I think that is part of the deal with Amy, sometimes she steals the show and otners well you all know.

I just can’t watch it a second time either. It’s hurting me seeing it only once. I wont comment about the performance or her state but both were just amongst the worst I’ve seen of her.

Maybe her record company is pushing her to appear at these awards, hoping she will get her confidence back, but I don’t think she is ready. She is just going from place to place in a daze! She needed more than a weeks holiday on a beach to get her head back together! I just worry that the Amy we see now, is not the Amy that Blake thought he was marrying. If she can’t cope without Blake being constantly by her side, then I can’t see how their relationship will last. Being married is about sharing your life with someone you love, not gving up your life to be with them 24/7. She looks like she is caught in headlights from every angle!!

Oh Lord… um.. its not what I thought it would be :

It was strange seeing her at the awards without Blake…

I did wonder why he wasn’t with her. That’s not a big deal, but maybe it was for Amy. She could have been insecure without him there. If she was, then that could have been the reason for her “distracted” performance.

and, what’s that in all the press about her thowing things and being on edge backstage? Apparently, there were alot of booze demands made, and she herself says she can be a rather nasty drinker/drunk. She needs to cool it with the alcoholic beverages, paticularly before a televised performance…if that’s in fact what the case was.

Yes, she was brilliant at the Mercury’s, and I did think she was coming back. But she did have a touch of fragility about her, and maybe it was too much too soon!! We can’t really know what is going on in her head right now.

I can’t imagine what it must be like for her to have practically the whole world watching her every move, talking about her, worrying about her. Fame took her by surprise, and it has probably affected her mentally. She has to learn how to handle it, but who is going to teach her?

I am making lots of typo’s as I am so tired. Off to bed now!

I just watched it again and I just wish I could hug her. She looked so fragile and insecure looking at the floor all the time, her voice shaking… :frowning:

I was at work and was trying to watch but I couldn’t which is probably a good thing, I just watched it and I just feel sad. It was a forced performance. And I also noticed that Blake wasn’t there. Did they have a bust up before whe went on stage? This is not an afront to Blake but you cannot have your all tied up into one person, they WILL break your heart!!! without even trying just cos they are human. I know and am speaking from age and experience. Which probably why I feel her songs the way I do and no one could pay me enuff to go back to “Black”. Shit I spent 8 years in basic training to become who I am and knowing what I want today. And most it was because I did not have good people around me. Come on Amy!!! We love ya!!! Get on your grown woman and handle your shit, don’t just sing gully be gully. Pull that inner strength out!!! Everyone is looking forward to seeing and hearing your new stuff!!!

the Mercury Awards performance was great, so of course this doesn’t compare, but i think there have been performances by Amy that have been a lot worse than this. i don’t think it was all that bad, just a little less than average. when we know she can do far better, that’s what hurts.

I was at the MOBO’s and her performance was fine. She sounded great and everyone there enjoyed it.
