Maybe Winehouse uses these in her travails:

Always hold your head up, but be careful to keep your nose at a friendly level.

Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

In this life, we each create our own heaven and hell. (Conversation overhead on the bus)

fascinating/depressing UK bullying story:

In fact, schools have good reason to keep quiet about bullying for fear of damaging their reputation and alienating prospective pupils and their parents. Even if it were an isolated case, who is going to want to send their child to a school where seven-year-old girls are tied to railings and whipped?

^ That's outrageous. Absolute madness.

There's too many people
Planning your downfall
When your spirit's on trial
These nights can be frightening
Sleep transports sadness
To some other mid-brain
And somebody here
Will not be here next year
So you stand by the board
Full of fear and intention

And, if you think that they're listening
Well, you've got to be joking
Oh, you understand change
And you think it's essential
But when your profession
Is humiliation

Say the wrong word to our children ...
We'll have you, oh yes, we'll have you
Lay a hand on our children
And it's never too late to have you
Mucus on your collar
A nail up through the staff chair
A blade in your soap
And you cry into your pillow
To be finished would be a relief (x6)

Say the wrong word to our children ...
We'll have you, oh yes, we'll have you
Lay a hand on our children
And it's never too late to have you
To be finished would be a relief

I'm very glad the spring has come
The sun shines out so bright
Little birds upon the trees
Are singing for our delight

Working at a school, I see both sides of the equation, from the victim and from the bully. My school is located in the roughest neighborhoods in Detroit, and unfortuately is also at the epicenter of a well-known drug gang. Lots of the kids have personal issues, which may cause bullying and other bad behavior.

A little boy witnessed his father getting shot in the head, another student is raised by his mother who is an admitted paranoid schizophrenic. Both of these boys were victimized by bullies, quite badly. The staff, including myself, became proactive in protecting these boys, much to the chagrin of the bullies' parents. One of the bullies was given an administrative transfer, which means an enforced expulsion and transfer to another school. One of the parents contacted the mayor's office and the other contact the local news media.

Another type of bullying, was from a parent. The little girl refused to do her homework, and was quite disruptive in class. The teacher and principal called the mother to make an appointment to perhaps set a behavioral treatment plan for the student. What did the mother do? Called the principal and teacher everything but the Children of God and threatened to blow up the school. BTW, she was one of the MILDER bullying parents. Another parent, let's just say almost made me lose my job, which was saved by several other staff members holding me back. The Detroit Public Schools powers-that-be insist on 'customer service', meaning, shut up, suck it up and smile to those assaholic parents. Let their bullying child remain in the school, after all, we need those federal dollars to stay afloat!

Is it a wonder why the educational system has so many burnt out employees? Next week, 5 of our most senior teachers are retiring. They've had enough of the madness.

but anyways I don't really know what to make of this one...but it definitely made me put my palm to my face. amy amy amy...
