Hi everyone. I'm a longtime fan of Amy's. Her death ripped me apart. Since that awful day I have been hanging around this forum and it's been really comforting so thanks. I don't really know how to put my grief into words so I didn't bother joining until now.
Anyways, I'm a massive Green Day fan and on Thursday night they played a surprise club show full of new songs. The frontman Billie Joe came out at the end of the set on his own with an electric guitar and a sheet of lyrics. He played a song called Amy. I am sure it is about her. It's very beautiful so I immediately thought of you guys and thought I'd share it. The quality is not perfect as it's from a phone and the person who recorded it had to hide her phone because you weren't meant to be recording.

I can't post links since I don't have 15 posts so just add .com after youtube and megaupload.
Here it is on youtube (may get taken down): youtube/watch?v=fRiI6qpug4w
Here is a download link: megaupload/?d=6RMFUTSM

These are as much of the lyrics as I've figured out for now; Some words I'm sure are wrong and others are missing.

Amy :) -
ACHY HEARTS SINGING OUT OF TUNE
ONLY I'M JUST SINGING MY TRUTH
DIRTY RECORDS FROM ANOTHER TIME
AND BLOOD STAINS ON YOUR SHOES

NO-ONE REALLY KNOWS ABOUT YOU GIRL
AND I DIDN'T REALLY KNOW YOUR AIM
GETTING AWAY FROM YOUR COUNTRY LIFE
A BUNCH OF FOOLS DROWN IN SHAME

EVERYWHERE YOU GO, I WANT YOU AROUND
SINGING OH, PLEASE DON'T GO
DO YOU WANNA BE A FRIEND OF MINE?
DO YOU WANNA BE A FRIEND OF MINE?

DID YOU TELL IT TO YOUR LUCKY CHARM?
KEEP YOU OUT OF HARMS WAY
WELL THE AWFUL EVIL SIGNS
NEVER REALLY KEPT YOU SAFE

NOW YOU'RE TOO YOUNG FOR THE GOLDEN AGE
AS THE RECORD SPINS MEMORIES FADE
... TROUBLE, I WILL CALL ON...
AMY WALKED AWAY FROM HER DRINK

AMY DON'T YOU GO, I WANT YOU AROUND
SINGING OH, PLEASE DON'T GO
DO YOU WANNA BE A FRIEND OF MINE?
DO YOU WANNA BE A FRIEND OF MINE?
AMY, PLEASE DON'T GO
AMY, PLEASE DON'T GO

ACHY HEARTS SINGING OUT OF TUNE
ONLY I'M JUST SINGING MY TRUTH
DIRTY RECORDS FROM ANOTHER TIME
AND BLOOD STAINS ON YOUR SHOES

THEY ARE HAVING..... A CAN'T ...FAITH
CAN YOU ASK ... ANOTHER GUY
SO WE CAN SING, BEAUTY QUEEN

AMY DON'T YOU GO
I WANT YOU AROUND
SINGING OH, PLEASE DON'T GO
DO YOU WANNA BE A FRIEND OF MINE?
DO YOU WANNA BE A FRIEND OF MINE?
DO YOU WANNA BE A FRIEND OF MINE?

Enjoy xx

Thank you! It seems like the greater the musician, the greater is their respect for Amy.

No disrespect ever toward Amy Winehouse, as I loved her music and respected her as an artist, but I think many people are jumping to conclusions that this new Green Day song is about her.

While I think it's fine for people to interpret song meanings for themselves, I don't think it is appropriate for people to be posting it before it has even been released and assuming and claiming you are sure, or certain, it was written for Amy Winehouse. Billie Joe didn't announce at the show that it was dedicated to her nor has he substantiated such a claim in any way. I also find it hard to believe he would right a song asking her to be his friend after she passed away. Thanks.

^ you get the meaning of "BLOOD STAINS ON YOUR SHOES"? I don't think there's much doubt.
When I heard the first report that Amy had sung Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, I hoped it was their version.

thanks for the link, Alan. I've heard that song before (probably in a store or something) and never knew it was 'boulevard'. lol

yeah, there is no doubt in my mind that the song is about Amy w/the 'bloodstains on your shoes' line, along w/a few others.

Thanks everyone. :D I thought you would like it. Some of the lyrics I posted are definitely wrong. I'm thinking it's maybe paltry life, not country life. It makes more sense too. I might edit it later.

It really made me smile to hear my hero had wrote this beautiful song for Amy. I looked to her as a big sister.

Thank you! It seems like the greater the musician, the greater is their respect for Amy.

You're welcome! Aww, I agree. Any true musician knows what an incredible talent she was.. Actually anyone with an ounce of intelligence does!
Thanks for posting the link.

No problem. Yes, me too!

Let me guess, you are from the GDC (our Green Day forum)? There's no need for you to come over here and say this. It's not jumping to any conclusions. Of course it's about her.

I sincerely doubt this song will ever actually be released. Not everything must be announced in such simple and bold/obnoxious ways. I'm sure he assumed people were intelligent enough to know it was about her. Since when has he announced and dedicated songs to people who inspired them?? Maybe he thought that would seem cheap. Are you serious? Again, not everything has to be so pronounced and simplified. One of her most haunting and famous lyrics is "I just need a friend" from Rehab. Time doesn't have to exist in music, that's the beauty of it. I don't mean to be argumentative but you're just not looking at it clearly.
Every ounce of this song is truly Amy. It's no coincidence.

Oh yeah!! :( I remember when the nme falsely reported she had covered it, I was soo excited and it turned out not to be..

I am not from any Green Day forum or community or whatever this is you are talking about it. I am, however, a Green Day fan and I was at this show. I am also, as I stated previously, an Amy Winehouse fan. But from all the blogs I have been reading online about this song, I think everyone is jumping to conclusions. As for the true meaning of the song this remains to be seen. But I think all music is open to self-interpretation, so if it soothes your soul to think billie joe wrote this for her, then by all means assume away. Peace and Love.

P.S. As stated this song, or any songs that night, were not meant to be recorded and sent on to YouTube, so I think it is very inappropriate for you to post an illegal bootleg.

For some reason the edit button is not showing up for me on the first post so I will have to share it in another post for now; Green Day posted a message on their website thanking everyone who came out to the benefit show and giving us a small update. They also said,
"P.S. here are the lyrics for The new song Amy...Amy
Is your heart singing out of tune
Are your eyes just singing the blues
Dirty records from another time
Some blood stains on your shoes
No one really knows about your soul
And I barely even know your name
Burning rhythms and posting lies
For a bunch of fools drown in shame
Amy don't you go
I want you around
Singin' woah please don't go
Do you wanna be a friend of mine?
Did you tattoo a lucky charm
To keep you out of harms way?
Warding off all evil signs
But it never really kept you safe
You're too young for the golden age
Cause the record bin's been replaced
27 gone without a trace
And you walked away from your drink
Is your heart singing out of tune
Are you eyes just singing the blues?
Dirty records from another time
Some blood stains on your shoes
May I have this last dance
By chance if we should meet?
Can you write me a lullaby?
So we can sing you to sleep"

So there we have it, the beautiful true lyrics. :) Again, I hope you all enjoy.

If a mod or admin is able to edit my first post with the correct lyrics, by all means do!

Okay. Wow, lucky to have been at the show! I never said you were not a fan. I just honestly don't think it's jumping to conclusions. It is crystal clear to me and many others that it is about her. Perhaps the correct lyrics, which give even more hints may change your mind. Also, I don't think they would have posted the lyrics to the song if it wasn't a tribute to her. They're normally quite secretive, as I'm sure you know. I don't think we'll ever really hear from them again about this, so there may be nothing that remains to be seen. I agree all music is open to self-interpretation. If it soothes your soul to ignore that this is about her, ignore away. Annoyance and Ever Growing Impatience

P.S. I determine what is appropriate or not for myself, thank you very much. Not everyone was so lucky to have been at the show. I decided it would be nice to share this beautiful tribute with other grieving fans. Also, the band posting their thanks and lyrics makes me think they don't mind too much. ;-) Or will you await a statement about that too?
