I always find it interesting when a musician becomes popular in the gay and/or lesbian scene. Do you think Amy is liked by so many lesbians because she has pictures of naked women on her arms? That’s the only reason I can think of.

Haha!! That could be one reason for it. But seriously, I never understand it when people say someone is a ‘gay icon’ or something. Like, Judy Garland (for example) was a gay icon and alot of people say it’s because gay men could relate to her because of things that happened in her life but it just doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve read that some people say gay men like Garland so much because they can relate to her because she had alot of tragic moments in her life but why does that attract gay men?? Surely that can attract ANYONE in the world, gay or not. That’s just an example but do you understand what I’m trying to say?

Ha after the Birmingham gig my mum said, “well she’s got a bigger lesbian audience than i expected”. I reckon it’s cause she’s a pretty tomboy-she sees herself as feminine but doesn’t want to pander to men’s expectations-she is how she is for her. Oh and she’s got great tits for a skinny girl. I think gay followings emerge for a whole number of different reasons. As a gay guy, I can say from experience that they mostly come from a deep admiration of the person. Not really for any particular reason, I think its just chance whoever ends up on the recieving end.
Amy for example, I think she is just a strong, powerful woman, and so a lot of people will respect and admire her for it, gay or straight. It just seems to me that in this case, people focus on the fact a group of lesbians like her, when in the long run, why shouldnt they? It probably just so happens that a lot of lesbians like her just or the exact same reasons you do, but people pick up on it more because lesbians are a minority.

I have just heard/read alot of stuff like, “Amy’s huge lesbian following” and wondered why lesbians liked her so much but you’ve completely cleared it up for me and made me realise that they probably do like her for exactly the same reasons we do. Feel like a prat for not realising that before. :fool:

I could easily imagine Amy becoming a gay icon…And that many draq-artists would impersionate her. There´s something draq-queenish about Amy herself (at least in her present style), actually I wouldn´t be that surprised if she turned out to be a man
