^ Fair enough, but I'd like the next album to be a bit less messy, please.

There may be messy aspects to Amy, but I always thought her studio work was the exact opposite of messy, i.e., masterfully done and superbly crafted. If that changes, I'll be disappointed.

I'm with you Lainey and Dave....I posted the above to show how people have gotten so used to her messiness that it's almost expected...

...while Amy Winehouse’s hilariously sloppy “It’s My Party” should offend anyone with ears. It’s in those edgier cuts, though, where the legacy of Jones’ example lives.

Quincy will be on the Letterman show tomorrow. (Wednesday) I hope Dave asks him what's the deal with Amy!

I still love the song and the ending with the riffs/adlbibs are just bliss.

Amy, are you happy?
She squints suspiciously at me.
"About what?"
About life.
"I'm happy about this salad."

Quincy Jones on Amy Winehouse: "Amazing Lady…Straighten Up"
Quincy Jones joined On Point on Wednesday, and told the story of how he first met Winehouse, at the London concert for Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday.
"And we stood there and talked for a long time. The three of us, her father and I, were holding one another on the shoulder."
"It was the most amazing conversation, because she’s very smart, very aware – an amazing lady. I was trying to tell her to straighten up a little bit, because I’ve got a few kids that I see the good in and the brilliance in. And she said she understood and everything else. I read her a letter my daughter at 35 sent to me. And she was moved. She couldn’t finish it. She almost cried. And she said, ‘I understand, Mr. Jones.’ And she went out on the stage and sang the song, and then [in her subsequent concert] punched out one of the girls in the audience. But she’s going to be O.K., man, this is a smart kid. We’ve got to take the time and love and be there for her until she gets it together."

It's that nasal sound that I was afraid of hearing...I was hoping that it would just appear when she was very drunk...unfortunately, the nasal sound is very apparent in this song in the chorus.

But...I looooove the Amy-style rendition, and it's so nice to hear the strength of her voice is there.

I hope her new album doesn't come out sounding this nasally, tho'.

I have to admit to becoming addicted to this song...what nasal voice??? haha

I listen to it every time I get on the computer...over and over...especially love the ending

10 Tracks You Have To Hear This Week - Laura Marling, Amy Winehouse, Kid Cudi

16 November 2010

3. Amy Winehouse - 'It’s My Party'
She may be singing behind the beat in a way anyone who has seen ‘Rehab’ live will be familiar with but, by the ad-libs at the end, the distinction between Amy and nine zillion pitch-perfect X Factorites is clear, as is the reason why people will always, always care.

This version has a good slideshow of Amy pics. Have to admit that a new song plus these pics does start getting me a bit excited.

(Balloon alert for Lainey at 00:10!)
