Finally saw it this weekend. Can't say that I was overly impressed. It was perhaps just a bit too objective. Don't know what Mitch is on about. Let the chips fall where they may. The theatre had a really good sound system and they had it cranked. Hearing Amy's voice at that volume just reminds one that this lady had one hell of a voice. I was hoping for more music. Didn't have to be new or unheard music, just more music. We all know the story and how it ends so no surprises there. I think Kapadia could have done a better job. Too much tabloid paparazzi footage and not enough of the enormous talent that was Amy Winehouse. He tells the story and it's a sad one but I think Amy somehow gets lost in it. One message comes through loud and clear though. Tough love aint makin it! Perhaps tough love is a defense mechanism for those that really care. If they step back and take a hands off approach then I guess they don't have to worry about being rejected or hurt. Unfortunately that's not what Amy needed. The people that cared the most stepped back and that void was filled by lots of others. Greedy self serving individuals and we all know who they are. Someone should have grabbed that woman, held on tightly and never let go. Amy cried out for help for months even years before her death. How sad that in the end she was alone. What a fucking waste.

I havn"t seen the film YET! But from my understanding about the film is that was the story , Amy the "real Amy" did get lost even surrounded by people. Sticking up for her friends Juliet, Lauren and Nick, I had a friend with mental illness and addiction you have to distance yourself for your own mental health , especially if your not family it"s even harder. Unfortunately for my friend his story had the same sad ending as Amy, just what he did was deliberate. Just very sad........
I think if record companies, managers, paparazzi change then the film will have served a purpose.

I actually agree. Especially if you've helped all you can and they still don't want to listen. I have a friend that's in the wrong place right now as well, he is suicidal and is always depressed, and he 'medicates' himself with painkillers, and weed. LOTS of pills. People have offered him help and he pushes those that care away. I still see him and text him, call him but for my own sanity I can't be around him a lot. It makes me depressed as well, it rubs off. Especially since I've been depressed before also. It triggers it. He's also always angry and very pessimistic. Also, if I hang out with him while he always sniffs these pills it's like I am saying it's okay for him to do them and I disagree with that. So in a way I get how they felt(Juliette and Lauren) . They probably were always there though, just a phone call away. And it's not true they didn't talk after 2008. Mitch is lying. There are certainly pics of Juliette in St. Lucia with Amy after that, and even after. I've sen themHe tells the story and it's a sad one but I think Amy somehow gets lost in it. By dykehaze

I saw The Movie on Friday. And Saturday. And Sunday. Monday too. Oh and last night as well. Shocker: I fucking loved it!
I thought about the criticisms some have made, and I think they're all valid to some degree or another. And there are definitely things I felt that, if included, would have made the picture more complete. But I've just resigned myself to two points:
- This was Asif's movie, not my movie. This was his vision and he's the one that assembled the team and worked for three years putting this together.
- Even with its faults, this is far and away the most complete major document we have of her so far (and are likely to have for quite some time).
I felt that the filmmakers succeeded in not only making a documentary about Amy, but a movie that is as much about Amy as it is about fame, greed, morbid curiosity, drug addiction, mental illness and dysfunction.

Good read. Although to be fair, there have been countless docs on kurt cobain that focus on his demons and relationship with courtney love, not to mention the murder conspiracy! Every nirvana music video you go on has comments about these rather than about the songs. It's taken 21 years for them to do a documentary more focused on his art.
